New phone

Hi guys I’m 27 and I want to buy myself a new phone. I have earnt and saved up a lot of money from my work. I know I am supposed to save up for rent when I move into a new house this year. But I am tired of waiting to rely on my parents to get me a new phone.

Or get a replaced one under insurance. I am perfectly mature enough to buy myself a new one and not have to wait for a new one. My current phone is useless as got ruined due to the storm whilst I was out walking my dog and unfortunately I we got caught in it and damaged my phone I am still able to use it. But it’s not working efficiently.

What do you guys think I should do as I am a grown ass man who can buy certain things for myself and a new phone is a priority.

Thats brillaint. You have shown initiative and saved up and you totally deserve it. Do ur research and purchase the right phone, no need to wait. You can show your parents you are no longer reliant on them and can do it yourself.

yeah its not like I waste my money on stuff just because I got paid I will only buy stuff if I actually need it but I am good with money and I don't buy it on stupid things. but yeah sure I can buy something when I want to treat myself. but yeah I am 27 and not some child anymore and its time I start sorting myself and buy what I want when I got a full time job.

but I am not going to buy a contracted phone just want to buy the one off so I dot have to pay every month.

As a grown man, that's for you to decide. Logically, if your old phone was covered by insurance and you have the obligations of an adult that would see your finances better invested elsewhere, then the sensible thing would be to make use of that insurance. If you have disposable funds that you can spend on personal goods without compromising your ability to buy and save for things that would be considered necessities, go right ahead and pick up something shiny and new.

You're 27 years old, that should never have been an expectation in the first place.

Since your current phone is damaged and not functioning well, and you’ve saved up enough money, buying a new phone makes sense, especially if it’s a priority for you. However, make sure you still have enough savings for your upcoming rent and other essentials. As long as your finances allow for both, go ahead and invest in a new phone that will serve your needs better. Just ensure you maintain a balance between your immediate wants and future responsibilities.

Have you already bought a phone? If you worry about other upcoming expenses, I think you can choose among used iPhones. The price is much lower than on new models but they are still of high quality. I've been using my used iPhone 11 for more than three years without any issues.
