HNC to 2nd at Strathclyde uni in Mechanical Engineering.

Anyone took this route? Or share the intensity of 2nd year? Just my options are limited as colleges don’t seem to have the numbers for HND.
The college did offer to help with entry to Strathclyde as they are affiliated with the engineering academy.

My question is, will I struggle?
Every assessment so far from HNC is above 90%.
Also do they have alot of content for focusing on test questions? Or pre-assessment material?
looked at some of there tests - basis seems the same but different. Just questioning myself if it will be waste of my time.
Also have ADD to throw into the mix, so just unsure. I’m not working, so I have all my free time to put into the course, which worked well for the hnc.

My plan initially was HNC/HND then hopefully get onto to a degree apprenticeship in mechanical or aero. As I already have 15 years experience as mechanical tech in automotive and aeroderivatives.
Then 3rd year at uni would be down to one day a week, giving plenty of time to study and get my head round things as everything takes twice as much.

Any insight would be great, apologies for rambling just thinking out loud, getting out the relevant information.

Hey Anon! If you're looking to chat to current students about the intensity of studies and what sort of assessments etc we use Unibuddy which might be helpful? There's a link here you can have a look at, and you can filter to the 'Faculty of Engineering' 🙂

In terms of getting some advice from our end to support what you have in college for applying etc, it's maybe worth getting in touch with the Engineering admissions team at [email protected]. They'll be able to help with which route is best suited to you!

Hi everyone,

I’m currently preparing for my second attempt at the HNC Mechanical Engineering Graded Unit. I received a C in my first attempt, and I’ve been told that the second attempt is going to be quite different. I’d really appreciate it if anyone could share a past paper or example of a previous Graded Unit for HNC Mechanical Engineering.

I’m hoping to use it for practice so I can better understand what’s expected this time around.

Thanks in advance

I am having to resit my graded unit for HNC social services and I did the same thing as you first attempt was a C grade. I missed a B by 3 marks. All you can do is look were you have went wrong the first time around. As your teacher would of given you feedback. And practice re writing the graded unit. The questions second time around will be different. But they will still have the same subject content.
Try and answer the questions more directly and you will get more marks.
I spent to much time writing a story. Rather than stating the answer.
That's my advice. Good luck 🤞
