Living on Edge Hill campus in 2nd year

Hello,

I'm about to start my second year at Edge Hill University and I'm curious about what it's like living on campus during the second and third years. I also want to know about any expeditions, important information, and experiences that I should be aware of. Please share your thoughts and insights with me.

Hi!

I lived on campus at Edge Hill University during my first and second year.

If you are wishing to live on campus during these years the options of accommodation are much fewer than first year as there is specific accommodation which is assigned for these year groups (this is currently Woodland Court and some places in Forest Court - however this can/may change). The application process usually opens end of January/February and you usually find out within a matter of weeks on whether you have a place or not.

This was usually chosen at random unless you had specific circumstances e.g., a disability. This does mean if you are unsuccessful you would need to look into private accommodation off campus instead. In which there still will be those options available however you do usually see the cheaper and better private accommodation will have already been sold.

My experience was that only one of my friends did live on campus however all the others were off campus which I felt gave them a greater sense of freedom as they were usually in the centre of Ormskirk and also usually meant they were living with friends and not strangers. I feel like there are benefits to both living on or off campus.

In my final year I live in private accommodation this was largely due to not getting a place on campus however it does mean I am closer to my friends and feel like I have a greater sense of freedom than I did on campus. This also means I am closer to the centre of Ormskirk which is easier when doing shopping or wanting to go out with people.

Hope that helps, let me know if you have any further questions!

So, I already know where am living on campus, but i have completely forgotten the name. I can say that the area is near Edge Hill's gym and exercise area. In terms of living on campus, what must i be concerned about and living independently, studies because i am nervous and scared to live on campus as it's my first ever experience living alone? Any tips and suggestions to give me?

That place I assume would be chancellors court then. Living on campus and away from home is a very new experience for many which can feel daunting however it is something that you will get use to. I would recommend trying to join the Facebook group as this will provide an opportunity for you to speak with your future flat mates and potentially sort meeting up ahead of time.

Everyone is in the same situation of moving away from home so I find you can find comfort in this and can make it easier to talk with people about that.

I would recommend talking and get stuck in to the activities because you have no idea if you will meet a great friend this way and can also make you more comfortable with speaking with others. I would recommend looking into the societies and the sports teams (you can do them for fun or join the professional team) as this is a great way of getting to know people who also have a similar interest as you.

Studies should be fine your lecturers and personal tutors are there to support you however if you have any issues you can talk to them or get support through student support and the catalyst (library) uni skills workshops if you are struggling with a specific thing such as essay writing or referencing.

Let me know if you have any further questions, hopefully this helps in some way!
