I just moved out of langton close!! It was truly such a great accom, the biggest concern I had was the bathrooms, I was really lucky that I shared my flat and bathroom with only 4 other girls but some flats shared with up to 8 people, with two bathrooms. everything was always clean, and the bathrooms and kitchen are cleaned so often you kind of forget you’re sharing. In comparison, other accommodations that share bathrooms share between their whole floor and it’s always a mess. So I would say Langton Close if very good for clean bathrooms and you’ll only ever be sharing a bathroom with 3/4 other people. And i’ve heard of same flats even sharing between 2 people if you’re lucky. We share most things with Frances Gardener, so you’ll meet loads of people from there too. But this means the laundry room is almost always busy, so do laundry in the morning definitely. It’s a 15-20 minute walk to uni (if you’re fast, if not like a 25 minute walk) , but this walk does get a bit annoying because it can’t equate to almost an hour everyday of just walking and also if you’re running late to a lecture :frown:( It’s 8-10 minutes walking to king’s cross too and there’s always so much happening in King’s Cross. loads of (popular and trending) restaurants and things happen there, loads of pop up stores and I’ve managed to see a couple of famous people performing there (ed sheeran and will smith for example) It’s also a 15-20 minute walk to Farringdon Station, and a short bus ride to Camden too. The biggest thing about these walks is the grocery shopping; as a student you’ll want to shop in places like Lidl, which the nearest one is around a 25-30 minute walk (right behind uni campus) and can be quite a lot when you’ve done grocery shopping and walking back with heavy bags. There is a ‘shopping centre’ nearby (like a 5-7 minute walk) and there’s a waitrose there (expensive but is a really huge supermarket, the biggest one in the area) and there’s also a tesco express there and a sainsbury’s too (a small one), but these are all expensive. In that shopping centre, there’s loads of restaurants and things to eat, like nando’s for example. my favourite place to go was the slim chickens there personally. In general most places are walkable from Langton Close, I would often walk to southbank and walk along the riverfront which was around 30-40 minutes walking (or you can take the bus), and it’s beautiful there. Reception and security staff are great too. I would definitely recommend spending the first few weeks in the common room in the basement, as that’s where everyone was in freshers and that’s where I made most of my friends in my accom. Overall, langton close is such a good accom for first year!!! Anymore questions just ask!

When moving in, are the rooms allocated or is it a first come first serve basis?

Were there any maintenance issues like WiFi, heating and water? How good is the communication w the maintenance/reception staff? And do you know what the regular single rooms are like? Are they reasonable sized?

I believe that the rooms are already allocated before you move in, so doesn’t really matter about what time you choose to move in! 🙂 but huge tip, if you can, book a really early slot for move in. i moved in at 5am and absolutely no one was there, it was so quiet and i beat everyone else trying to move in during the day!! it’s so worth it trust me 🙂

Personally for my flat, we never had any issues with Wifi, heating or water. everything always worked for me perfectly but have heard of other rooms having dampness issues, heating not working etc. Reception is always manned so there’s always someone to talk to if you have any issues, but also ucl uses askucl which is a system where you can talk about any issues that you may have (from accommodation issues to struggling with uni workload, to struggling with neurodivergency, literally anything). It’s all online and they usually get back to you within a day. I personally stayed in a single room on the ground floor in the accessible flat, so my room was a bit bigger than the average single room, I would say the average single bedrooms are reasonably sized, around 4/5 people can sit in one (average) single room (with some people on the bed) comfortably. my room could easily fit in around 5/6 people, so just depends on what floor and where you’re based in the building. The bed sizes are all single beds, and all rooms come with a desk, bin and a wardrobe. As my flat was an accessible flat, I also had a very, very large kitchen too and I was only sharing with 4 other people. But the other flats kitchens were quite small, especially if they were sharing between 8 people. For reference I’ve put images of my room and my kitchen 🙂 IMG_4826.jpeg
