ID in off-license stores

I'm aware of the challenge 21 and 25 policies in all supermarkets and major retail stores, but what about small off-license shops? Do they still ask for ID when buying alcohol/cigarettes? They've generally been lax about energy drinks that are age-restricted, just curious about other products.

Its the same law, same consequences, similar inspection, for anyone selling it. And even if they get away with it, sooner or later that place will get into trouble if they are selling age-restricted products to folks whom are underage, obviously. It is hard to govern it, as is the case with many laws, overall, but authorities are aware of the problems associated with it, and society expects certain protection in varying contexts, so they will be hard on the business if they are found to be selling it, could be a fine, loose license and worse consequences. This is why many businesses will be wary and often overcautious about the whole thing, be compassionate and have your ID ready, and maybe you should even consider being kind to them on those other-other products which they are not necessarily aware of as they should be and showing them the label, might be decent of you. The adult world comes with all sorts of responsibility to be decent, the whole situation hinges on it, so if you act decently often there is more flexibility, if you obviously abuse anything that is when it becomes the issue.
