cover letter to declare changes to my application

Hi, I have just submitted my student finance, one section of the application asked if I have any children and if they were financially dependent on me, naturally, I selected yes (myself and the children's mother are not together) following completion of the application, it is asking me to submit evidence of child tax credits which I am not in receipt of and all birth certificates of my children, I phoned student finance to ask about this because I can't help feeling as though I have misunderstood the application, the advisor told me to write on a piece of paper declaring that I do not want the children on my application nor need the special support loan, is it as simple as that? I'm not doubting what the advisor has said, I would just like to double-check and make sure I get it done correctly the second time around to avoid any confusion/errors.
