Economics at Durham and contextual offers

Hey

I am on a gap year atm, but have an unconditional from Durham university for earth sciences. But over the last few months I have further grown my interest in economics and am thinking on taking another year to complete an A level in economics. Due to personal reasons during year 13 and the exams, I only got AAB in Maths, chemistry and physics (predicted A*A*A lol), but I’m hoping I could get an A* in the economics over the year if I put in the work  since I’m eligible for contextual offers at Durham, would I have any chance at Durham for economics if I got predicted an A* in economics?

Thank you

Why don’t you accept your current offer and then change course when you’re there?

I thought that the economics course would be full once I’m there so they wouldn’t let me change?

Lots of people change their courses in the first term as they realise they don’t actually like what they’re studying. If you justify yourself you can probably get in as long as you have relevant background in this area and the grades to go with it, Due to the maths background, I think it could demonstrate that you’d be ok with it, as it’s heavily maths based. It’s not guaranteed but it’s very likely as long as you changed within first few weeks.
