Heyy, I can’t talk about the timetable much because I’m also doing MHN this September!
However, I can tell you a bit about the placements.
Right, so you’d be working typical shifts, across sites (community to clinical settings) each semester (every 2 months) after semester 2. This is how it was with some of the students I’ve met, but I’m not sure if it’s different in different uni’s.
Typical day starts at 7am and ends at 7pm. You’ll have a book that needs to be signed by the lead nurse/ supervisor. You are advised to send an email to your placement manager/ supervisor before starting your placement.
You may get a minimum of 2 breaks and it’s up to you to fit that in, in a way that works for you.
I’d give more details, but I feel like it might take away from the experience and it can be fun once you get used to it.
The advice I was given was to always be open to giving things a go, even if you’re not sure how to do it (ask for help) and to always ask questions as it shows you’re interested.
I’d recommend watching YouTube videos of ppl talking about their experience. It’ll give you an idea of what it could be like.
Also, carry pens… preferably more than one cuz they always go missing 😂. A bottle of water too. Talk with the patients, it can be a bit tough at first, but they’re people too and having new people always takes some getting used to.
Read the handover and you may have to do night shifts. Read up on the patients a little to get an idea about them, but the fastest way to learn would be to speak to HCA’s (health care assistants) because they’d be able to give you a summary/understanding of the patient’s in the ward (in my experience).
Also, after you’ve been there a while, all you’ll hear is Lorazepam 😭😭(that’s me rn)
What I do know about the timetable is that we’d finish the course later (if you look up the term dates for ur uni, it should come up) than others. For example, I’d finish the academic year in September… 🥲
