Hi,

This is a great question!

I would say my favourite place to eat is Poor Boys, the food is so good! But it can get quite busy as it is so popular, so best to go on a week night. There are also lots of places that offer student discount and places on the Thames which are really nice. In the centre of Kingston there is a food market which is nice to get food from and go and sit by the river.

When it comes to pubs I would say the best for students is the Mill you can get student discount on drinks and they do a student night on a Wednesday where the drinks are even cheaper, lots of students go and it is a great atmosphere.

I hope this helps and enjoy freshers

Hi there @jstar777 , you can usually access your timetable through the KingstonUni app! Once you have your Kingston student ID and email account, you should be able to sign in to the app. You should be able to select timetable which will show your scheduled classes. However that said, this depends on your course as well as some departments(like mine) prefer to send out and excel sheet with the term timetable. Some departments only upload the timetable onto the app closer towards the start of term so you may not be able to see your timetable this early. Try it out and let me know if it works!

Hi Grace!
I had a question about accommodation! I unfortunately was not able to get my preferred accommodation :frown: but did manage to book one at another hall. I wanted to ask whether accommodation can be switched later in the academic year and if yes, what the process would be like.
I emailed the accommodations team to see if there’s a possibility to be in a waitlist of any kind in case of future cancellations at my preferred hall, but for that, I have to re-enter the portal which would lead to my current booking being cancelled; and since it’s first come first serve, they cannot guarantee a place.
I wanted to ask if there is any possibility of rooms being available at halls in the future and if I should take the risk of cancelling my current booking in hopes to get one at my preferred hall.
Thanks!

Hi,

Oh no sorry to hear this! Which accommodation have you booked? And what accommodation would you like?

I think it is a big risk to take before you start and before you come and see what the accommodation is like. You never know you might like it, the accommodation is great at Kingston. Plus you will feel better knowing you have accommodation when you start. But of course I understand the other accommodation may be more convenient when it comes to accommodation etc.

If you still don't like it when you are there, there may be other spaces at the other accommodation as people start to drop out or from changing there mind.

So I would say maybe it's best to wait until you have started. Also I think then the process will be different as I assume the portal will be closed, so it may be just a case of contacting the halls management or accommodation team once there. Or potentially closer to move in/after results day.

I hope this helps and good luck 🙂 Let me know what accommodation it is as it might give me a better idea.

Hi,
I booked for Clayhill whilst my preferred was Seething Wells - which considering my campus location, both are great options! But the only aspect demotivating me about Clayhill is it’s mixed reviews, since I’ve heard bad things about it.
But other than that, thank you for your response! I think it’s best to go ahead with my booking for now. Speaking of which, is it a good idea to make the advanced payment now; considering I still have a conditional offer? But again, since it’s first come first serve basis, will it be too late to do it after getting an unconditional offer?
Thanks!

Hi,

Yes I think this is a great decision to go ahead with the booking and decide when you get there as I think Clayhill is a good accommodation, Seething Wells is just a little bit more modern. I would assume places will come at Seething Wells as it is a big accommodation site so it is likely rooms will free up.

When it comes to the first payment I think it is only due mid October so as long as you have paid the deposit your place will be secure no other payment is needed. Did you pay the deposit when you booked? I am assuming you will get this back if you change your mind, I would check the terms and conditions and if it doesn't say then message the accommodation team.

I hope this helps

Hi Grace,
I have two questions.
Firstly, my postgraduate course includes a professional placement year. I'd like to know if I can apply for student accommodation during my placement year.
Seconly, I plan to take up a part-time work at Kingston Uni. I wonder what the potential wage is for a student ambassador. Thanks!

Best regards,
May

Hi @MayCheng1027

Great to hear that you are coming to Kingston! I would check with the accommodation team, here is the contact email for them [email protected]

Being an ambassador is a great part-time job to have the current pay is £14.74 per hour!

I hope this helps

Hi @MayCheng1027

That's great that you would like to be an ambassador! I agree the pay is really good.

For me it was during I think the first introduction talk I went to in welcome week there was QR code to scan and fill out the application and apply. Applications I assume will open again in September this year.

I will also add a link here that gives you more information about the job and on the page there is contact details of who to get in touch with to apply Student ambassadors - Working with schools and colleges - Kingston University London

I hope this helps and good luck

Hey @405px

It's great to hear you are coming to Kingston! I stayed in Middle Mill last year and I went to Pure Gym which is a 10 minute walk from Middle Mill. However there are lost of options such as The Gym Group which is across from Pure Gym and the university gym which is called The Fitness Centre at Penryn Road, it is an 8 minute walk from Middle Mill.

I would say the best thing to do is see which gym has the best deal on when you want to join, as there are usually lots of student offers, especially in September to get students to join.

I will also leave a link to a post I did breaking down the prices and distances of all the gyms in Kingston Sports and Gym Facilities at Kingston - The Student Room

I hope this helps and see you in September

Hi Grace,
I have an accommodation move-in question.
I will probably move into the Middle Mill Halls on Friday, September 13th. I wonder if the move-in time is 24 hours? Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

Hi. I’m doing a masters in September and was wondering about accommodation.
I’ve got a place at clayhill with a 50-week contract, I know I’m not in the same-sex block but will I be with other postgrads in my flat with the same contract length?
