Hi there, I can't say for sure if you will be put together with the other Postgrad students, this would depend on your block number. I suggest contacting the accommodations team at +44 (0)20 8417 6000 or contacting the Clayhill team directly through the Contact Us page.

Hi Grace,
I have an accommodation move-in question.
I will probably move into the Middle Mill Halls on Friday, September 13th. I wonder if the move-in time is 24 hours? Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

Hi @MayCheng1027

It is usually between 9am till 6pm. However, security is onsite at Middle Mill 24 hours, so I think they grant you access to your room but you will complete the check-in process the next day or during the hours above. Just call the number on the reception door to let them know you have arrived.

You could always contact the accommodation team by emailing [email protected] to work out a time that works for you and double check that it is ok.

I hope this helps!

Hi, I am hoping to start University this september. Iam going to Kingston University and was just wondering if i need to apply for the maintanence loan??.I know it would be useful but in the end it would beadded to the amount i have to pay back alongisdemy tuition fees when i finish uni.My uni expenses would not include accomodationsince i will be commuting to uni from my home andi can either take the bus or the national rail, whichalrhough will cost more i was gonna get therailcard from santander to help with that. And this isgonna be like my main expenses.I geuss i may also need to buy textbooks but imnot sure if i need to for computer science.Other expenses could include food from fastfoodshops but im not too fussed about that, or maybe anew laptop but im honestly not sure.So any help/ thoughts would be great on if i doneed the maintanence loan or not.

Hi @aaliyahhoney

You can stay in the accommodation over Christmas and don't have to move in your stuff, as those weeks are included in your contract.

When it comes to summer it depends on how long your contract is with the accommodation you are staying in. For me I think my contact was around 43 weeks and I had to move out by 22nd June. If you are studying something like midwifery you may have a longer contact for 50 weeks.

I am pretty sure you can also request to stay over summer, but you may just have to move rooms and will have to pay more. You can contact the accommodation team about this closer to summer.

I hope this helps

Hi @Fhello

Great to hear that you are joining Kingston in September!

I think there is a few things to consider here. Firstly maybe try to add up what you might spend every month or week, I would overestimate rather than under just so you have a max amount to plan with. Then once you have that figure how are you going to match it, do you have a part-time job where you can earn that much a month or is it looking like you do need extra support.

When it comes to textbooks I know that the library usually has all the textbooks you need, so you could just make the most of the facilities at Kingston. Plus there is an online library service you can use from home as they have may of the books as eBooks.

You could always apply for the loan for the first year and see how you go and you may realise you don't need it for the second and third year and then you have only taken out one year of loan. Plus this could be used for your laptop, but again the computers and facilities in the library are great. There are also laptops you can loan from the library and there are some discounts you can get when buying a laptop as a Kingston student I will add a link to the page that has the information here IT services and support - Information for students - Information and Technology Services - Kingston University London

I am of course in no place to give finical advice, but personally I am trying to save my student loan to the use it as a house deposit. I am not sure if this is a good idea but just thought I would share as what you don't spend you could invest or save, so it is still beneficial.

I hope this helps
