Hi there!

Cardiff might suit your needs - there is no requirement to take A Level Maths for the Computer Science degree 🙂 The entry requirements varies from ABB-BBB (dependent if you did an EPQ and/or eligible for contextual offer) and you only need a 4 at english language GCSE and a 6 in maths GCSE (note that this is for 2025 entry and may change in later years!)

Its quite a good course and the building you'd typically be based in is the ABACWS building which is one of the uni's newest buildings, only built a few years ago.

If you wanted to give it a look, you can find all information on the computer science course page.

Hi @Brianstudy01, Coventry University Student Ambassador here! 👋

I wasn't a fan of Maths throughout secondary school and college but really wanted to get into Computer Science, so I ended up choosing Software Engineering at Coventry University! Software Engineering offers an opportunity to explore a broad spectrum of engineering principles, system design, and practical implementations of software systems. At Coventry University, the course introduces programming languages such as C++ and Python in the first year, as well as mathematics and data science, integrating these principles in a hands-on practical module where you can start coding. Computer Science follows the same first-year curriculum as Software Engineering, so there's the opportunity to switch courses if you're more interested in theory than practical applications.

Even if you struggle with Mathematics, we only have one module in the first year, and the university provides all the tools and knowledge to learn the maths needed for software engineering, along with extra support from our Sigma Maths and Stats Support team. It's also worth noting that this is the same first-year curriculum as Computer Science.

Coventry University entry requirements are:

Computer Science BSc and Software Engineering BSc:

A-Level: BBB to include one from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Computer Science, Computing, or Design Technology. Excludes General Studies.

BTEC: DMM in IT or a technical subject.

If you're unsure, I highly recommend visiting us at our Open Days. You can talk to us ambassadors, lecturers, and supporting staff, as well as get a feel for student life in our Environment, Engineering, and Science department. Check out our next available date here! Hope this helps 😊
