I've submitted my assignment late, will it screw up my degree classification?

I'm freaking out about this big time, and I know some of you might say, "Just relax," but seriously, I could really use some reassurance here!

I go to uob and am in my final year of uni. My dissertation deadline was today at 12pm worth 100% of my mark for this 20 credit module. For this assignment the penalty - 5 points per working day late. I submitted an incorrect file at 12pm which is already considered late, however I saw the error and submitted the correct one at 12:05 due to slow computer. This meant that my submission was late and I incurred a late penalty which is - 5 marks.

I know I shouldn’t have left the submission to the last minute. This has not happened before either. What are your thoughts? I know this is a lesson of not leaving it to the last minute but this is literally the first time in my 3 years at uni. As of now I am on track for a second upper.

Will this affect my degree classification?

Well you'll get the penalty for your marks on the assessment itself, and then depending how your various credits and years of study are weighted this will in some way affect your final result.

5% of the dissertation would be 0.25% of the overall result for third year, which would then be weighted in whatever way for your final year. I doubt it would be more than 1-2% of your overall result, which isn't nothing but if you're on track for a good (mid) 2:1 then you'll still get that.

If you are expecting to be right on the border though it could make a difference between being in one classification or a lower one though.

hi! as of now i'm at a 68% overall, but i still have 2 more papers and 2 more assignments.

breakdown:
paper 1: 50% of a 20 credit module
paper 2: 50% of a 20 credit module
assignment 1: 30% of a 20 credit module
assignment 2: 20% of a 20 credit module

Do you think there are any grounds for appeal?

On what grounds?

No?

Students are made aware of deadlines well in advance, and will know from very early in the degree they need to submit things in advance of the deadline to accommodate any issues that may arise from incorrect versions being submitted, internet or other technical computer issues, etc.

By third year they expect you to know and plan for this and I can't see how you can successfully appeal having submitted it late in spite of the above. Especially for major pieces of work like the dissertation.
