maintenance loan with self employed income

im applying for my 2nd year finance. our household situation has changed since last years application as my wife is now in full time employment, i am still working as self employed when i can.

But as im self employed (UK Citizen) and do an end of tax year self assessment, do i have to declare my own income in applying for the maintenance loan? it asks for employed status to be declared, but casual work to NOT be declared, however im not employed, im self employed. i work when i can where i can (building trade) so income varies and obviously now im at uni it has drastically fallen, and i wont be working during term times.

any definitive guides to maintenance loans and self employment?

Hi there, We would only require income details to be provided from your Wife, we do not take into account any income a student receives. Thanks, Angela

Thanks for the reply.

I know that is for the student loan, but does that also apply for the maintenance loan?

In the application it has asked to me if I am employed, am I to reply yes to that as I'm working (self employed)?

Hi there. Are you a UK national? We don't take student employment into account for the Maintenance Loan. What section of the application are you on? Thanks, Leah.

yes, UK national (mature student).

i have applied for second year finance: student loan and full maintenance. I'm currently at the stage where i have submitted my application on the gov.uk website. it asked if i am employed but i am not employed on a contract, i just work as self employed and submit a yearly self assessment tax return (via an accountant).

I just wanted to make sure i have filled this out correctly and not needing to amend my application.

Did it ask about this when you were filling in the application? We do ask about the student income but only taxable unearned income, so it wouldn't ask if you were employed, unless it's regarding employer release, which is when an employer pays you in order to attend your course. Thanks, Leah.
