Do I have a chance at a top 5 uni with bad GCSEs but good alevels?

Iโ€™m applying for an averagely competitive course.

My GCSEs were 7s in the subjects Iโ€™m taking for alevel but the rest were 6s with one 5.

But my alevels are 3 A*. Do I have a chance at a top 5 uni? Like UCL or Cambridge

My boyfriend is going to oxford 2024 and from his experience, oxbridge requires top grades at GSCE (8-9). The other top 5s, it won't stop you from getting in but if the competion is high it could be a partly deciding factor.

Yeah but I mean itโ€™s pretty uncommon for someone to go from 6s at GCSEs to A* which is normally required for oxbridge so thereโ€™s probably less of them

Depends on the Uni subject - and the University.

Many of the most competitive Unis will 'score' your overall GCSE profile, or specific relevant subjects, and use that as part of their assessment. This is how they split applicants who have the same A level predictions.

The stats will show rejection on oxbridge for that no matter the A Level grades, check your course and what people typically get in on and what they get rejected from.

It almost always depends on the course/uni and who you are against.

I recently was accepted by Cambridge with no A levels and very average GCSEs to do a Masters. The reason for this is I got a 1:1 in a part time Bachelor's at Staffordshire uni while gaining solid work experience.

If you are sure that you want to end up at a high ranking Uni, you could do so by starting elsewhere and smashing your Bachelors!
