Uni offer

Hi, I'm currently in Year 12 and will soon by applying to universities.
My first choice is Uni of Bristol, then Exeter and I'm interested in Computer Science.
My problem is that i have not done particularly well in my GCSE's. I've got 6 - maths, 6 - physics and BTEC L2M for ICT (my secondary did not offer Computer Science), rest were 9,5,5,4,4,4.
I was struggling in the first term of college and got D - maths, E - Physics and A - Computer Science. On my next set of mocks i've got A - Maths, C - Physics and A - Computer Science. I'm currently doing my 3rd set of mocks and am stressed to get the best results.

I don't know if my results are good enough to get a conditional offer from either of these universities. Can someone share their feelings or experience about this?

CS is VERY competitive and for top Unis like these you will need predicted grades that meet or exceed the entry requirements. Wait until you have your predicted grades (September?) and then you will know which Unis are an option for you. Maths is the most important subject for CS, and if you don't have at least a grade A prediction then Bristol and Exeter are not realistic choices.

Thanks. My predicted grades at this moment are all BBB. I hope to increase that since i've been working real hard this term, but my exam today went awful because of stress and that's why I posted this. I hope i'll have a chance to resit it though.

Have you checked the entry requirements for both universities?

Yes,
Bristol: A*AA (A* in Maths)
Exeter: AAA - AAB

I don't know if i have to meet these requirements before i apply just to get an offer or just get these grades from my finals.

Well, if you're predicted around BBB then the chance of getting an offer from an A*AA course is pretty low.

Yeah, but this BBB is just initial prediction i got a the beginning of college. What I'm curious about is if i need to achieve AAA predicted before i apply or just at the final exam.

Universities will assess your application on the information available at the time you submit it.

Are they "generous" with their offers? For example if my predicted will be ABB and i need AAA or AAB do i still have a chance?

Yes, and your chance will be better the closer you are.

The usual advice for your 5 UCAS choices is :
1 just above your predicted grades - 1 grade and not in a vital subject.
3 at your predicted grades - for CS these are still risky as its such a competitive subject.
At least 1 choice well below your predicted grades.

doing maths geography physics (predicted AAB respectively which was sent off to UCAS) + epq and taking my exams rn.
Exeter gave me an offer for Comp sci: "grades AAB at A-Level in 3 subjects but excluding General Studies including A level Mathematics at Grade B. With a grade A in either the EPQ or Core Maths we guarantee to confirm your place if you achieve 1 grades below your offer, excluding any subject conditions."
pretty sure i've got an A on my epq, looking at previous grade boundaries. so i can get in with ABB,AAC, or higher.

Hi,

I'm currently year 13 and applied to Exeter last year, for a joint honours in film studies and maths. For my A Levels I had predicted grades A in fine art, B in maths, and D in physics, and the offer for my course (taking into account that I've already got an A in the EPQ) was AAC or ABB including an A in maths.

Exeter gave me a conditional offer of the standard offer for my course. I had been really worried about not getting an offer due to my low grades, so I read a lot about the uni while waiting to hear back, and found uni students/applicants saying Exeter is known for giving almost everyone a conditional offer even if their predicted grades are low (they assume that most of those people won't be able to improve their grades in time for their actual A Levels, so they're not worried about overcrowding or anything). So hopefully you'll get an offer anyway, and then you'll have all of year 13 to improve your grades
