He spat on my face when intoxicated

My partner is a loving, caring and supportive man. He supports everything I do and pushes me to do well. He's always a call away whenever I need help with anything.
So we've been together for 16 months and only drinks on ooccasions. Last week we went to a birthday party and he had few too many to drink. We got into a heated argument then he spat on my face. He then held my mouth shut. I moved his hand then slapped him, he slapped me back. This is not the first time he spat in my face, he's done it before when intoxicated. Because he's a good person without the alcohol, should I forgive him? Is there a chance for him to change?

LEAVE HIM!!!!! i know it’s hard but drunk aggressive men are so so scary and it shows true colours. you can do SO much better. don’t let yourself be degraded like that i am so sorry that has happened to you. but trust me when i say leave him
NAH WHAT! a man should never hit you even if intoxicated. it sort of shows his true angry side. when you have arguments normally, what is he like then? does he keep calm? does he get violent?

He's never violent which is why I am in two minds. He doesn't shout or swear. He'll always try to resolve the issue and check how I'm feeling about it. When he is upset, he will have a sad tone to his voice but that's about it. The only time he swears and shout is when he's on the road. His road rage can be quite bad

It’s unacceptable behaviour of the worst kind. If you want to forgive him it needs to be with the proviso that it must never happen again

The fact that you're asking the question suggests that you know this is not a heathy relationship:

He knows that drinking makes him behave like this but he does it anyway.

He's done it before.

It's degrading and humiliating - you simply don't treat someone you love like that.

Lots of people drink too much now and again and don't humiliate and abuse their partner.

You're making excuses for behaviour that is inexcusable.

Please leave him before it escalates.

tbh he's unlikely to change unless he completely gives up alcohol.

my boyfriend is the same. he's normally pretty calm and collected. but the second he has a bit of alcohol in his system, he changes into a completely different person. alcohol just makes some people violent, idk why

I wouldn't tolerate that nonsense at all, they'd be gone that day.

LEAVE HIM! Many Men only show their true colours after a long, long time (e.g. After Marriage).
He's abusive. Cut him off. he seems like a ****.
