How Diverse is newcastle university? (black/asian/white)

Hi, I’ve firmed newcastle university but I’m from London and keep hearing mixed views on this topic… I am fine with moving far as I wanted to explore a new area of england (particularly as far from London as possible lol). I will be studying biomed too so if there is any info on how diverse that course is i would be grateful 😭😭 🙏. Thank you!!!

Why does it matter what your class mates look like?

I’ve been thinking the same as I am black, firmed Newcastle and have been looking into diversity, however I currently live in a predominantly white area. I saw a girl on Tik tok said that joining the African / Caribbean society is a good way to find black friends and she made most of her friends through this society. Hope that helps

It is more to do with culture and feeling comfortable in a foreign environment compared to what i’m used to… I am asian and coming from a city that is more diverse (London) where majority of my classmates are not white and are black/asian i feel nervous moving to an area that i’ve heard is predominantly white. particularly due to racist remarks and it would be relieving to find other prospective students that share similar cultural backgrounds (although i want to meet a wide range of people (it’s still easier to have a group that share similar experiences)!

Please let me know if you do know 🙏🙏 thank you )

Hi I'm Asian too and I've firmed biomed as well <3. I'm from the north so I've been in and out of the city sometimes, I'd say it's quite diverse. The city is usually filled with international students, especially around Chinatown. I've seen all sorts of different kinds of ppl honestly and I don't think I felt left out at any point 😭 I've joined a previous summer school from them (Bitesize 2023) and I'm going to PASS 2024 this year. There were many ppl from different places, I think I met someone who came from Malaysia actually. I've met a lot of poc on an offer holding day for their uni for biomed and it was just really nice and we got along so well. I'm sure a lot of people are worried about diversity but speaking as an asian living up north I'd say Newcastle is probably one of the most diverse university cities I've visited

it’s not that it matters what the classmates look like, but I’m sure the person who made this thread is worried that due to the lack of diversity in newcastle they may be discriminated against. you’d understand if you’re a poc, especially a woc (women of colour)

In my opinion, Newcastle uni is slightly less diverse than other unis but the stats do keep changing as last year I feel that the campus was a little more diverse, compared to what I heard from my seniors who are 2 years older to me. There's loads of cultural societies, so please pick the one thats best for u
