Struggling between Uni of Portsmouth or Solent Southampton (Post Production for Film)

Basiacally, the course I want to do seems better at Portsmouth however my brother's currently doing his masters there and he says that the uni is quite dead and all of his mates are bored there so they usually just go out to Southampton anyway. I wanted to know if anyone currently at Portsmouth could speak from experience as to if Portsmouth is a dead Uni or not.

Depends on if you stay in student halls tbh and if you get lucky with the people you stay with like any other uni. A lot of people make friends with their flatmates in 1st year and go out clubbing, drinking etc with them and often end up renting with them for the rest of their time at uni.. Some like Greetham are known as the party halls (do not select quiet accommodation or you may end up in a dead silent flat where just playing music without headphones gets you reported).

If you're not going for shared student accommodation sporting societies are a safe bet because of Purple Wednesday and definitely go out during fresher's to make friends. Avoid clubs like Prism and go to Astoria instead (the latter is always full, even after fresher's and is pretty safe).

My friend is also very interested in film production, especially screenwriting for film. He's paying attention to Portsmouth too. He doesn't care socialising too much, but the course's teaching quality and prospect. Some senior ones from school also mentioned about Solent... Please advise more from those who are knowledgable with them. Thanks in advance!
Hi I hope you are doing well,

I am about to go into my 3rd year at Portsmouth studying Film Production and I can't recommend the course enough! The subject is very hands on with students getting to use a whole host of industry standard equipment such as ARRI ALEXA LF cameras (cameras which were used on some Oscar winning film this year) as well as facilities such as a green screen volumetric studio, film studios, and an XR studio (A LED screen used to film 'The Mandalorian' and is one of the only ones in an academic institution in the UK) The course specialises in short film production and you will be focussed on a lot of practical work and making films and with the new post-production course, you will look at the filmmaking process and how that all comes together in the edit whilst learning from working industry professionals.

Whilst being quite a small city, Portsmouth has a lot going on including a lot of options for bars and clubs for the nightlife and lots of stuff to do separate from that so plenty of chances for a vibrant and exciting social life.

At the end of the day, look at both courses and both cities and see which is best for you but I really love what Portsmouth has to offer.

All the best,
Daniel
