How long is the process to join as an officer?

How long did it take you? Does anyone who is in the application stage have a start date?
Maybe 6 months; could be longer, could be shorter. Helps if you have all the necessary paperwork ready, are on top of your fitness and have checked your medical records and don't have anything that could delay your application by requiring further investigation.

If your role requires CBAT, then from the day you put in your application to starting at Cranwell, 8-9 months is a more realistic timeframe. I'm yet to meet anyone who: completed every bit of paperwork right first time; had a quick turn around on event invites and was able to accept every initial invite; did the SHINE interview the day they got it; passed the medical without hitch had and had their GP provide medical records in a timely manner. It goes through peaks and troughs. It's all very slow at the beginning, then once you pass the medical your fitness test will likely be booked for the next week, so you get all excited. You pass the PJFT, only one step left to go! Then it takes a month to get your OASC invite, which then won't be for another 6 weeks. It can be frustrating at times. But just see it as a positive, if gives you more time to prepare for OASC and interviews. You have more time to get stronger and fitter.

Apologies for refraining the story yet again and having @Surnia and @threeportdrift rolling their eyes 🤣, my first experience involved an application for pilot in June1976 and walking through the gates of the Officer Cadet Training Unit on the 2nd Jan 1977. One visit to the local AFCO, one visit to OASC Biggin Hill (3 days) and one admin letter to clarify a change of surname, followed by a lovely letter on cream parchment paper to advise of my selection, and jobs a goodun.

Can’t help but thinking that some things were better in the old days.

Icky

PS I was walking out the gates in May 77 as a civvy again, but that was due to my muppetry and incompetence on the field leadership exercises. The whole experience will be described in memoirs covering my subsequent 32 years non commissioned aircrew service, at a later date. 🤣

Close, but he was the one before me. I did his grad parade before getting chopped. Nice lad with some blue sky thinking about jet powered flight. I often wonder if anything came of those ideas. 🤣
