lnat help

alr here are some qs for the ppl who have taken the lnat:

how did you prepare for the lnat?
what resources did you use?

1. You get a score on the multiple choice qs in section 1, each uni considers the section 2 essay differently so no mark for that
2. Practice makes perfect, but also mentally prepped by trying to practice mostly in exam conditions (timed, silent, on a computer etc); also got a subscription to newspapers to read in preparation for the essay
3. I did the mock tests on the LNAT website, bought + completed qs in the ultimate LNAT guidebook and used Arbitio (paid online service)

Good luck!

ARBITIO IS KING OF MULTIPLE CHOICE, DONT UNDERESTIMATE ESSAY PREP, If you havent done everything on Arbitio and you are looking for oxbridge levels of competitiveness then you'll be underprepped (most likely)

I second this, mcq practice for me a 31 but neglected the essay and Durham cited it as their reason for rejecting me. Write a lot AND under times conditions

i got 33/42 in the MCQ part and my prep was as follows

1.Did the sample test on the website like 1.5 months before the exam. Identified what I struggle with (in my case it was rushing through the test rather than reading into the questions and texts)
2. Ordered the Mark Shepherds book. I first read all the advice at the beginning of the book and actually tried to understand the essence of it.
3. Did like 1-3 full texts a few times a week. Checked the answers and made sure to read into the explanations. Don’t remember the exact logistics of it but I went through all of the sample questions in the book.
4. The weekend before I did like two timed tests off the website.

As for the LNAT essay:

I got a UCL and Durham offers so I guess it was decent enough.

I just searched up the recommended structure and tried sticking to it.
1. introduction (how you understand the question, define key terms, thesis)
2. paragraphs 1 and 2 (state a point, explain, link to the thesis)
3. paragraph 3 (state a counter argument, explain why you disagree, state a point which you link to the thesis)

Some other advice when it comes to the essay:
-connect points logically, make sure the “cause and effect” is visible in every argument
-don’t waffle as the time is very limited. state your points as concisely as possible.
-make the language academic, but natural enough. Do not try to sound too smart on purpose as it might end up being too much. Language is important (so double check for errors and clarity), but your style doesn’t have to be very flowery
-you don’t need real life examples

My daughter did not use Arbitio or any other paid service. She bought a book of practice tests and took these for about six weeks. She read news and current affairs websites and magazines. She obtained a score of 33 and secured a place at Oxford with an essay mark of 76% and an IB score of 43.
