Does anyone know what can be done?

My best friend said that she found a lump in her chest during an X-ray, pending final result. We have been friends for 14 years. She backed me up in literally all of my hard times. I can afford to lose any friend except her. I have anxiety problems myself and have already had enough serious personal problems to deal with. Hearing what she told me further caused my anxiety to spike. I hate catastrophising, but can't stop worrying about the worst-case scenario. Does anyone know what can be done?

Nothing can be done to improve the outcome of something already happening.

What you can do is support your friend in any way possible, tell her how you feel (I understand you probably wouldn't want to project on to her in such an unsettling time) but it's important she knows what is happening in your head.

Consult with your GP and see if you can get counselling for yourself?

The GP in my area doesn't offer counselling services, claiming that they don't have sufficient resources to provide...
