What GCSEs did everyone get that got them into Medicine?

I'm predicted the equivalent of about 8 A*s (including the sciences and mathematics) and 2 As, is this below average? Additionally, my school only permitted us to do combined science, is this still okay for medicine applications?

Combined science is fine.
Your grades are fine for most med schools, though not some of those who use GCSEs heavily to shortlist. Aim for the best grades you can get, but some med schools only need a 6 in Eng Lang and maths, so you will have plenty of options

Hi there,

It usually depends on the University itself. If you look at each individual uni website, they will have their entry requirements listed there. Those predicted grades sound fabulous, so keep working towards them. I think combined science would be fine, but you could double check on university websites!

I hope this helps,

I don't think there are any that have minimum requirements of higher than a 6, but there are several who score GCSEs, where a 6 in a core subject would mean you were unlikely to get shortlisted.

Bristol, Cambridge, Oxford, Exeter, Newcastle, Plymouth, QUB, Leeds and St Andrews will accept a 5 in Eng Lang, but Oxford, QUB, Leeds and from this year, Newcastle, will all score the grade, so as above, unlikely to make cut offs.
Glasgow have apparently said they will accept a C/5 in Eng Lang with a 6/B in Eng Lit

Is what ever seven or eight? As I say nowhere has a minimum requirement above a 6 for English language, that I’m aware of, but many of them will score it so anything less than an eight or nine will cause problems with shortlisting.
ok thank you

Where did you find this information as when I looked at their websites it says they need a 6 in English language for medicine?

Where are we talking about? It might have changed for 2025 entry, I’ve not reviewed for this year yet

For example Exeter said it needs a 6 in lang.
I think this is what you meant but if it’s not just reply and I will try to clarify. Thanks you again for helping me

Yes, that is correct.
No med school has a minimum requirement of more than a 6. But for some of the med schools that score GCSEs, a 6 would mean you did not get enough points to be shortlisted. Exeter does not score GCSEs

Do you know which unis score GCSES?
Also my GCSEs are 9877765 and 2x D2 (7-8 in number grades) is that enough if I apply to a uni that scores GCSES?

Click on the links in the first post here, but bear in mind they have not been updated for a few years. They will give you a good idea

No, it is unlikely your GCSEs would be high enough for those that heavily score them, eg Cardiff, Oxford, QUB, Leeds, Nottingham, Leicester, Aston, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Kings, HYMS, probably Newcastle this year but a really high UCAT and WP points could balance them out at some, if they will count your D2s. That still leaves you with lots of places your GCSEs would not be a problem
