Is anyone else studying mental health nursing at hallam this year?

Hi everyone. My name is Liam and I'll be studying mental health nursing at sheffield hallam University this September. I just wanted to reach out and say hi to everyone else who's on the course. I'm 32 and going back Into education, which I'm nervous and excited about at the same time. I can't wait to meet other students who share the same passion as I do for mental health support and awareness.

Hi Liam, I’m Toni. Also mature student at 38 and I’ll be starting in September with you! Also nervous, but mostly excited. Can’t wait to get going x

Hi Toni, I'm really happy there are other mature students just like me. I was nervous because I got the idea that I would be the only mature student there, which sounds silly, haha. I can't wait to start, too. I'm looking forward to meeting you in September and all the other students 🙂 x

I know exactly what you mean but I’m they’ll be more of us than we think. Do you live quite local to uni? I’m about 45mins away so will be driving in and I already feel stressed about parking 😂x

I live in Sheffield, but I don't drive, so I'll have to get the bus down, but it's easy for me to get there; it takes about half an hour to get to uni. I'm just hoping that when we get put on placements, it's somewhere I can get to. I think they did mention in the interview that they try to find a place where it's accessible. I've heard parking can be tricky, a friend of mine who studies there now mentioned it can be tricky one day, then easy the next day. 😂 x

Yeah it’s definitely going to be tricky. It did sound like they were really accommodating. Looking forward to meeting you in September x

Hi Natalie, I’m Toni. Definitely feeling the same as you are. I’m actually driving to Sheffield tomorrow, trying a park and ride and getting on the tram to uni to see if I can figure this out. It’s the one part the really worries me, oh and getting lost 😂

Hi Toni, nice to meet you 😁 when I’ve gone to the campus for OH I parked at ParkBee BankPark on Ecclesall Road. It’s a 5 minute walk to Collegiate, cheap for all day parking and you can book your space online. Used it a few times now and it’s not hard to find. The road that’s next to Collegiate is always chockablock. My husband graduated from SHU last year and says there’s parking behind Wheatsheaf on Ecclesall Road as well. I’m going a couple of trial runs over the summer so I know what I’m doing 😁

Thanks so much for that, I will give it a try. Got the park and ride down now I think. I’ve even done it by myself when I went to occupation therapy the other week! Does anyone know when we get information on dates for enrolment etc and do we not get timetables till welcome week? I can’t believe how quickly it’s all come around x

Hi Liam, I’ve just seen this post - Hi! Only a couple more weeks to go. I’m chomping at the bit to get cracking now. I’m a mature student also and have never been to university. Have not studied for 10 years so this will be an experience 😁
