Gap year internships/work experience REGRET!

I'm taking a gap year, and have already gotten an offer for Glasgow uni for English Literature in 2025.

Initially, for my gap year, I just expected to stay at my minimum wage job and save, and maybe go away to my home country for a few months, but now I'm regretting my decision - while I was still in school, I should have been talking to my career advisor and applying for gap year internships or work experience!! Now i'm terrified about my future, especially because im doing Eng Lit...there aren't a lot of opportunities if you aren't in undergrad, so i'm really not sure of what to do. Any advice?

Do you think I should still try and talk to my school's career advisor, I didn't leave school very long ago, or some of my old teachers? I'd probably find it very embarrassing though. Where should I try and look myself for opportunities? Anyone have similar experiences? What skills should I try and build up if I cant find any opportunities? I'd like to find something in publishing, journalism, editing, etc.

Hi , I'm doing my a levels but I'll also taking a gap year and I've been planning it these past couple of months and looking for opportunities too in the sectors I'm interested in . Do you have LinkedIn? - I would say quite a lot of the opportunities I see are through there. Also I would recommend joining a youth board which could be to do with your interests (writing) or something your passionate about - which could open a door to way more opportunities for you and you could meet some really great people. If you have LinkedIn or social media we can talk more on there if you'd like 🙂 some you can check out :

Penguine work experience (4 cohorts):
