Accommodation question

Hi guys. I know for some unis you have to live in halls for the first year. Is royal Holloway one of those or am I able to accommodate outside the university as a first year? Thanks.

No university forces you to live in halls for the first year. It's just a service the university offers you, typically only for your first year at uni, but you can accommodate yourself outside the university. The most they can do is make you live within a certain distance from the university, but there are only like three universities that operate these policies and Royal Holloway is not one of them, so don't worry about this!

It's up to you mate

The options are halls, private accommodation, or commuting. You are free to do whichever you want to

Halls really provide a lot of the uni experience in the first year, and I have enjoyed staying in halls in my first year

If you stay in private accommodation near the uni, you will still be able to attend after-hours gatherings and SU nights, and you may prefer the option of not being in halls

Commuting is fine, but you have to get a bus to uni or walk from Egham station, and you don't really get much out of uni aside from the learning and working
