Hi my daughter goes to Lancaster uni, and the colleges are pretty similar in each other. All the colleges are pretty sociable, and it does depend on your flat. The townhouses (daughter was in grizedale townhouse) was very sociable, but its not an ensuite. She shared her bathroom with one other person. Theres 12 in the townhouse, and 4 on each floor and each floor has two bathrooms. Stereotypically, they say Grizedale is the 'party' college, but in her year, County college gave them a run for their money lol (2020-2021year). I wouldnt say theres an unsociable college. They all have their own social events, and you can join other college events too. I have to say I do like Grizedales bar and the 2 for 1 cocktails. £8.00 for two woo woos last year was pretty decent. But, I have also been in Fyldes bar and its playing sports, and they did a pretty decent burger. I have stayed in Bowland Main which is a non ensuite basic. Daughter was there for a few weeks in the summer and you can stay there and furness in the summer and its a weekly fee, right up until the week before freshers week. Bowland main was great and Alexandra square right on the doorstep.

Best location, this will be down to where your studies are at and if you want a home away from home which is a distance from your studies, or, you want something a place where you can roll out of bed and straight into lectures. Grizedale to physics, probably around 7-10 mins walk. Pendle superior ensuite is on south west campus, so something to bear in mind.

Hi Anon,

Honestly, it's very difficult to tell you what "vibe" each college has - because it'll vary person to person and flat to flat. Two flats next to each other in the exact same building will be so different to each other, one might be very quiet and one might be incredibly extroverted!

I always recommend picking your college based on the room type you want (I wanted ensuite) and where you'd like to be on campus. I wanted to be central, but not directly on the spine, and I thought the green space around Fylde/Furness was lovely so I personally chose those as my top 2. It's really personal to you and what you want.

Good luck with your decision!

Hi Anon,
All of the colleges have a slightly different feel to them, for instance Fylde is known for being a sporty college, whilst Cartmel is generally a bit quieter. A good way to get a feel for each college is to look at their instagram page to see what type of events they get up to throughout the year.
The colleges are found in different locations on campus, with Fylde, Furness and Bowland being the most central colleges. Then County, Grizedale and Pendle are located about a 5 minute walk from the center of campus and finally Cartmel and Lonsdale are located on a separate part of campus called South West campus, which is about a 10 minute walk from the center of campus.
When picking a college, I would prioritize the type of room you want (as certain room types aren't available in all the colleges), then prioritize location.
Hope this helps!

Hey Ghostlady, strange question..... I am a mum too and love to hang out with my daughter, we do lots of cool gigs and stuff together at the moment and it is going to be tough when she is so far away. Were you able to visit (stay?) and go to the bars etc with her? Was it too weird, because I do love a woo woo!? 😀

Hi definitely not strange at all 🙂 Ive stayed in her 2nd year landlord owned accommodation, and also year 3 private halls, as well as the summer accommodation at Bowland when she was in between contracts. Bowland one was fun as it was last years graduation so some of her 3rd year friends was leaving with a bsc, so we went to the learning zone where it was on tv and we sat and watched them graduate, then went to grizedale college for a few drinks. There was balloons, a marquee, drinks and a 3 piece jazz band playing current songs. As it was covid year when she started, we facetimed twice a week and its stayed like that since. In first year we would go and visit half way through each term. By second year she would come to us on the train. She had a week off before end of term in 2021, and also this year before lent term finished, so having the odd day for a gig im sure it will be fine 🙂 We love to go to galico lounge which is my fave restaurant in Lancaster, and we have that booked for graduation dinner.
Theres Vue cinema also in Lancaster, and a place called the dukes, which does plays and shows, comedians etc. We also go to morecambe and last year went to Blackpool.

As time has gone on, shes made friends, got a boyfriend where she visits him in west manchester and he visits her each weekend, plus internships in the summer, so she has spent less at ours, but she comes back every 6 weeks or so for 3-4 days. This summer will be the permanant move to Manchester. If she gets the 2:1 needed, she will be doing a phd at Manchester uni, or if not, she will be getting a job and moving that way to be closer to her boyfriend. It will be slightly closer to us, and bigger city, so we plan to do lots in Manchester.
