Lancaster Uni Colleges

I am applying for accommodation but I'm not sure which college would best suit me.

I would really like to partake in sports and also be able to be social, I also will be studying architecture (I am a little bit artsy as well). I think Lonsdale seemed very sporty, but I've never been to Lancaster Uni, so would the fact that it's further off campus impact me very much?

Hi, all colleges have their own sports teams, I’ve heard Lonsdale is one of the largest colleges and is sporty and social. Lonsdale is located on the outskirts of campus and is about a 10 minute ish walk to the centre of campus so if this bothers you maybe pick one more central. Also the architecture building is on the opposite end of campus to Lonsdale so maybe keep this is mind. 😊

Hope this helped

Hi Anon,

As already mentioned, all of the colleges have their own sports teams that play against each other. Fylde has a sports themed bar so is often thought of as being sporty. Lonsdale is one of the founding colleges (with Bowland) and is situated on south-west campus. It is about a 10-15 min walk from the centre of campus. I believe the architecture programmes are based at Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA) which is at the very north of campus, by County college. This would be approx 20 mins walk from Lonsdale. South west campus is all accommodation and college buildings so many people like the walk from south west campus to main campus as it helps to break up home life and uni work. It just depends on what you think will work for you.

Hope that helps!

Thank you
Architecture is split between LICA in first year and Bailrigg House in second and third years. But in reality it doesn't take long to reach anywhere on campus and it's a pleasant walk if you choose a hall on the South-West campus.

Hi Anon,
Applications for accommodation tend to open around this time of year. You should be sent an email when its time to apply for accommodation, which can be done on the accommodation portal found here College and Accommodation Portal (lancs.ac.uk).
Hope this helps!

Hi @footballmaniac29,
The law department is located closest to Bowland college. However, lots of your seminars and lectures wont be held within the department and will be held in lots of different lecture theatres all over campus, so picking accommodation next to your department wont necessarily mean your close to your lectures.
When deciding on a college for accommodation, personally i would see which ones offer the room type you want, then prioritize where you want to be on campus (furness and bowland are in the center, whilst cartmel and lonsdale are furthest from the center of campus)
Hope this helps!
