course

im on my gap year & i still haven’t decided what i want to do. was initially 100% set on med, but after a hospital job & awful application process ive been put off i think. i really like biology and coding but ucas extra closes in a like july, so theres no way i could be sure by then. And clearing for the unis I want have slim to none chances if im unlucky. i think its pretty unlikely comp sci will have spaces on results day, its on ucas extra rn, but for me to apply for this course id be withdrawing myself from another course. so i dont want to risk anything to realise a month later i changed my mind

I really dread going into first year; hating my course, not being allowed to switch due to lack of spaces to a popular course then wasting another year + money. esp if my course is completely different from my original like biochem and comp sci

I feel like if i decide what to do sooner my chances would be so much better through extra, but i cant come to a conclusion even after days/hours of research. and i hate the idea of risking a second gap year i genuinely cannot do it lol

im aware no one can decide for me but i would really appreciate any kind of advice
Honestly I feel like this too but picking between a passion of mine with little to no stability and something I kinda like and that has good job opportunities. It's hard not wanting to have this "forseeable regret" but we always have time to start again.

Also I've sort of messed up my application so I now find myself emailing my sixth form, a year later, asking for references because I didn't do an application for this year. Idk why i assumed i didnt need to do anything 😪

anywayssss I don't really have any advice but just know you're not feeling confused by yourself and hopefully our answer soon will come

Your chances of finding place at a sensible Uni for CS in Clearing is essentially zero.
And it sounds like you are not even certain that that is what you want to do.

Go to some Open Days - sign up for at least 2 difference subject talks at each Uni - and do some calm thinking about what you actually want to do - and why. Then apply in September with 5 thought-out choices for 2025 entry.

Biology and Computer Science joint degree - Subjects - University of St Andrews (st-andrews.ac.uk)
Computer Science and Neuroscience - Keele University
Natural Sciences BSc / MSci - University of Birmingham
