Application advice needed

I got a 5 in GCSE Maths and I didn’t do pure maths at GCSE even though it was offered at my school. My GCSE grades were 9998885U, with a 9 in English and U in biology. I got an A* in A level Maths and Further Mathematics and an A in Economics, Accounting and Business. Will my GCSE math grade affect my application? And should I resit? I am looking forward to applying for Economics and Mathematics at LSE and Economics and Economics and Management at Oxbridge. Thanks very much for your time.

How were you able to get on a maths (and FM) A level course with only a 5 at GCSE? Did you study as a private candidate, as schools and colleges would normally insist on a grade 7 or even higher to get on those courses?

I sat my Math and FM exams as a private candidate. My GCSE math grade was affected by my course schedule and my negligence to some extent. I changed three subjects 7 months towards the exams and I had to catch up on those and they also collided with my math classes. I did my first three A level subjects in year 12. I graduated afterwards . So I had a lot of time on my hands to prepare for my maths and FM.

It won't be an issue. Given your A level performance, your GCSE performance was obviously some combination of medical/domestic/maturity issues all of which are reasonable.

From a 5 to an A* in maths and further maths is amazing, you should be proud of urself. I don’t think any uni will care what u got at GCSE level.
Have you applied to any universities yet?
