Minimum grades for vet med?

HI, I’m a year 13 student that is going to take a gap year (by choice) and apply to vet schools in 2025. What I’m worried about is that I may only get the minimum grade requirements (AAA) and as such will be at a disadvantage when it comes to the interview selection process. Does anybody know which vet unis don’t put as much emphasis on grades?

Also i do qualify for the widening participation criteria but apparently it’s only for UK students? I’m an international student.

You only need to achieve their minimum so AAA is perfect. Getting higher grades does not get you any extra points against candidates who only get the minimum - it’s just a check in the box for meeting requirements and that’s all (maybe exceptions for Cambridge). Once you’re over the minimum threshold you’re all good, but work experience is also a minimum requirement + what you discuss in forms and interviews etc so it is probably even more important. I’m not sure about widening participation for international students sorry, but you can always email or call up the unis to ask.

Hi,

So long as you achieve the minimum grades it will not matter, as these are just a baseline which you need to achieve.

Your application will be more heavily weighted towards personal statement and the interview process.

Having grades AAA is more than sufficient for your application.

Hi I am im the same position as you.
I applied to university of vet med, Nicosia(Cyprus) and got in there although I didn’t quite meet their entry requirements and the application process is pretty simple. They have you send your documents and invite you for an interview and are really friendly throughout the process. Although this school is a bit pricey.

I am also applying for vet med, Kosice in Slovakia which has an entrance exam which I have yet to take.

Also if you have any experiences like working on a farm or at a vet clinic then that will help you.

Best of luck😃

As long as you hit the minimum requirement you are fine. Higher grades don't give you are special consideration, unless perhaps for cambridge. Its a tick box. If you have the grades you will go to the next stage (which depends on the uni). The further tests, personal statement and interview are a lot more important
