Single midwifery application?

Has anyone only applied for 1 uni and managed to get in?

I’m starting an access course with the goal of changing career to midwifery but there is only one uni local(ish) to me. I’m in Devon so there’s only Plymouth but it’s still either an hour on 2 trains a 10 minute drive and 25 minute train or 45 minute drive.. next closest are UWE and Bournemouth which are 2 hours+ drive so realistically I can only apply to plym

Has anyone else had this before and managed an offer? I’m planning to apply for both the blended and classic programmes at Plym to increase chances but not sure if there’s anything else I can do?

hi, i haven't applied to just one uni for midwifery but i'm pretty sure it will not matter how many you apply for - the university will not be aware. Just ensure that you research the uni and are throughly informed about the course and how the uni teaches it before you apply as they may question you on this during your interview process.

It's fine to apply to just one uni if that is your only option.

Yeah I know that if you only apply to one then the others can’t see but just wondering how realistic it is really as others more centrally in the uk will be able to apply to 5

I’m doing the access in college and they have a good relationship with the uni but it’s still making me more nervous than I think I would be if I had more options to apply to/was able to move for uni
I'm in a very similar position in that I am 23 and just about to start an access course in September through Cornwall Council hoping to study either nursing or midwifery at Plymouth (I am only just in Cornwall). I would not be able to make it to another uni as I have a baby and work commitments (farming)

It’s a tough spot isn’t it! Are you going to the plym open day on the 19th?

I’m 31 with a 7 year old but my mum is 5 mins from us so her help with overnight/early morning childcare will get us through.

Sorry for the late reply I was finishing my a levels. I totally get that makes you more nervous, just make sure your application is really really strong - put something in your personal statement that sets you apart from other people it will be the easiest way to get noticed by them and will give you a chance to inform them how much you know about midwifery before you are offered an interview, talk about things such as: do you have any caring commitments i.e. administering medication to a family member (don't have to specify why), helping a family member get to appointments, any work experience with vulnerable groups of people (care home, nursery)? However, if you have not had any experience with vulnerable people you do not have to inform them of that. Since you're only applying to one uni for midwifery you could make your personal statement centered to them… why it is important for you to stay close to home, why you have chosen them as your university (other than travelling to and from being the easier option) talk about post graduate employment rates, how many people are employed within 12 months of graduating the course/how in demand are graduates from the uni - it is quite easy to find that info it will usually be in reviews of the course or will be in their description of the course on their website - then say why that is important to you/ how you think it will benefit you in advancing through your career. Lastly, just talk about the skills you need to be a midwife and if you believe you possess them and how you believe you have gained them. If you haven't written your statement yet (sorry if you have all of the above will be practically useless) I would be more than happy to show you mine I got 4/5 interviews at universities with it

Hiya - I’m also looking to start adult nursing in 2025 and currently on an access course
Also only just in Cornwall but about a 45/50 min drive from Plymouth… are you all applying for 2025?

Yes for 2025, I’m about the same 50mins drive to Plym or a 10 min drive and 35 min train (which will probably be my preference for study time on the train and because parking is so expensive!)

How is your application going? I’ve drafted my personal statement and waiting for my tutor to read it next week 😬

Hello 🙂 I have completed my application via ucas… it’s been sent to my tutors to add the reference but I haven’t heard anything from them yet. I’ve got a meeting with a nursing academic in a couple of days and a campus tour at plym as I couldn’t make the open days… I’m applying for Marjon too. But saying that I’ve gotta pass my access and FS maths first 🙈😂
