AAB ,good enough for med?

I have gotten AAB as my predictions and I have aspirations to go into med school (not the best predictions to have when applying to a competitive course ).I have heard of foundation years and I thought I could maybe apply through those .I really want to be a doctor but I don't want to take a gap year or go through the graduate -entry way .

HOW should i go about this

‘3 x A levels (including Biology and Chemistry) with a minimum prediction of AAB.’

There is hope.

There is also lincoln
https://www.lincoln.ac.uk/course/mdcmdcub/
‘GCE Advanced Levels: AAA (or AAB contextual offer).
We do not use predicted A level grades and do not score A levels, AS levels, or equivalent as part of our selection process. However, any offers made will be conditional on meeting the A level requirements’

And https://kmms.ac.uk/entry-requirements-2025/
‘KMMS does not use predicted grades at all’

Why not ask for your teachers to Up the grades? If they say no compromise and say you can resit tests etc to prove you deserve the grade.

There are some med schools that will consider your application with AAB predicted, though not many, and your offer is still likely to be AAA. They are Liverpool, Nottingham and Lincoln (not considering predictions at all), Cardiff, Kent and Canterbury (do not look at predicted grades at all), Aston, Sheffield if you offer an EPQ at A with it, HYMS (and if you have an EPQ and make them your firm, this would be your offer too, but the EPQ must be at least an A), possibly Sunderland (they say "It is likely that a number of applicants achieving AAB in the subjects listed will also be admitted" but don't specifically say they will accept AAB predictions, so call and check), Keele, who use the same admission criteria as Sunderland, though their offer will likely be A*AA or AAA + A in EPQ; and I think, Leeds (they certainly award a score for lower than AAA predictions in their selection scoring, but the marks given mean you would be unlikely to make the interview cut off if these were your predictions). Exeter say for students who receive a standard offer, make Exeter their Firm choice and achieve a grade A in either the EPQ or Core Maths we guarantee to confirm their place if they achieve 1 grade below our offer, excluding any subject conditions, but they need A*s predicted to be shortlisted, so a bit stupid, really.
Oxford also apparently say they do not look at predicted grades.
You would also need to check carefully whether you met any WA criteria (they are different for each med school, so will require a plough through websites) as this lowers accepted predictions and offers made.
Also Leicester, Liverpool and Edge Hill if predicted A*AB (with A* in chem or bio). They will accept these final grades, too.

Foundation years are for those with WP flags, so if you meet the criteria for these, you would almost certainly meet the criteria for lowered grades on a standard A100 course

Yes, if you have the WP flags and meet the minimum requirements, that will be fine, assuming they don't score A levels..
You need to have a work/life balance. It is important to have down time and will make your studying more effective. Certainly, for medicine, unis want to see a rounded applicant who knows how to prioritise their own wellbeing.

Hiya! Not to hijack the thread, but I was wondering… for Liverpool, Nottingham, Lincoln, Cardiff etc. that don’t consider predicted grades, would ABB put you at no disadvantage compared to someone who is predicted AAA? (provided your PS/UCAT/interview was absolutely identical of course). Just asking because I’m predicted ABB. I’m eligible for WP for some unis, but not all.

I want to know if Lincoln, Notts, Cardiff also an option for me (without being eligible for their lowered WP offer). Would applying to these unis be a bad idea?

They will not even look at your A levels, so predictions of CCC would make no difference. They will, however, make their standard offer (AAA), regardless, so you need to be reasonably sure of meeting this, if you do not meet WP criteria
