BTEC + A levels

Hello, i am just finishing my first year in BTEC level 3 Computing and have been looking at universities. Most of the universities i have looked at to study computer science or cyber security require an A in A level maths. I cannot physically do this along side my BTEC (my college won’t allow it) how am i supposed to apply for the unis i want if i have no way of getting A level maths?

Some unis may have their own maths assessment to see you competency if you didn’t sit the a level. I would suggest looking into this. Or you could do a foundation year.

I saw that Bristol do this so this may be something i can look into doing however i’d obviously have to study all the content on my own instead of in a class which way be a lot harder

I know my external assessment dates for my course, but if you've been through year one and could let me know what dates they gave in their last few assignments that would be great. I want to find out when the last assignment is due,the internal units I'm doing just in case are:

Unit 07: IT Systems Security and Encryption

Unit 08: Business Applications of Social Media

Unit 11: Digital Graphics and Animation

Unit 22: Systems Analysis
Any other tips for my course would also be helpful, and I'm doing the PEARSON BTEC COMPUTING LEVEL 3 NATIONAL EXTENDED DIPLOMA.

Apologies for not responding before now, but if you're interested in cyber security might we suggest you consider an NCSC-Certified degree, as these have been evaluated by a panel of independent experts and found to offer a high-quality education, with relevant material taught by knowledgeable staff, using excellent facilities. They also tend to have good prospects for their graduates, as a result.

With regard to maths grades and entry requirements, a look through all the currently certified undergraduate degrees shows that the only one which would probably be closed to you is the one at Royal Holloway (Plymouth ask that you contact their admissions team if you didn't get a 5 in GCSE Maths). As such, there appears to be quite a few choices open to you.

We don't comment on individual universities per se, as to whether they are 'prestigious' or 'the top ones', as there are so many variables to consider, both from the point of view of the courses (e.g. content, teaching/assessment methods), and also the location (distance from home, city, campus, etc.), the accommodation, social life, cost of living etc.

Why not take a look at the list of undergraduate degrees, and click though to the course web pages for further information - good luck with your search 😀
