I would pick the one I like the most. They're all accredited by the BPS, which is the important thing in a conversion course. After that, it all comes down to personal preferences - do you like the module in one more than the others? Would you rather live in London, Cardiff, Glasgow or Belfast...?

I appreciate your response! There is good and bad about each school, things I like and don't about each school, so I'm looking to gather some info from other people's opinions!

Hi! Psychology undergrad student at Cardiff here.

Whilst all these courses do eventually lead up to the same thing, I would say a benefit of Cardiff in particular is the placement. Whilst I am not a MSc student, I am currently doing my placement year, and the process is pretty much the same in the conversion course as it is in the undergrad. The course genuinely does have a massive list of contacts - you are sort of spoilt for choice when it comes to placement haha. They give a lot of support for applying to placements, which I've appreciated.

If its worth anything, I've had 2 members of staff (who took the MSc) deliver my tutorials, and they spoke very highly of the course

As a student rep I will probably end up giving a biased view, and so will most others replying to this thread haha, but I'm happy to give any insight to living in Cardiff or studying here

Lots of great Universities there, whichever one you choose I would recommend picking up Coolican's 'Research Methods and Statistics in Psychology' its a great help, I just finished my MSc using it

Hey there! 🌟

I saw you're thinking about doing a master's degree in Psychology that’s amazing! I’ve been considering switching fields to Psychology too, and I have to tell you, the University of Essex offers the perfect program for people like us with no previous experience in the field. 🎓🧠

What's really great about Essex is that you don't need a conversion course to get into Psychology. Their MSc Psychology is specifically designed for those without prior knowledge of the subject. The entry requirements are quite accessible you just need a 2.2 in any subject, but you still get a world-leading education! 🌟

The Department of Psychology at Essex is fantastic. They have a super supportive environment, and the program is structured to give you a solid foundation in psychology. Plus, the course is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), which is a huge plus. This accreditation means you'll be eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership, opening up lots of career opportunities. 🌍💼

Speaking of career paths, a master's in Psychology can lead to so many exciting fields. You could go into clinical psychology, educational psychology, occupational psychology, or even research and academia. The skills you gain are also valuable in roles like human resources, marketing, and mental health support.

At Essex, you'll be learning from some of the best in the field. The professors are not just great teachers but also active researchers, bringing cutting-edge knowledge into the classroom. The university itself is a vibrant place with a beautiful campus, modern facilities, and a lively student community. Whether it’s academic life or social events, there’s always something happening here. 📚✨

I’m particularly excited about the hands-on experience and the opportunity to engage in real research projects. Essex has amazing resources, including advanced labs and a comprehensive library. Plus, the student support services are fantastic from academic advising to career counseling, they've got you covered. 🤓🔍

And let’s not forget the social side of things. Essex has a great nightlife and plenty of clubs and societies to join, making it easy to meet new people and have a balanced, enjoyable student life. 🎉🕺

If you’re looking for a welcoming and engaging environment to start your journey in psychology, the University of Essex is definitely the place to be. I’m really excited about the possibilities, and I think you’ll love it here too!

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or just want to chat more about it! 🌈🎓

Warm regards,

Hey, hope you’re doing well!
I am in my last year at Regent’s ( finishing my undergraduate degree) I have to say it has honestly been great, the professors are amazing, you get small classes and you’re constantly involved and they are such great help!!
My current course is not BPS accredited so i will also be doing a Msc , the only reason I decided not to do it at Regent’s is because it doesn’t get enough credit and when you tell people you study there usually they don’t know it.
Right now i am deciding between Cardiff, Queen Mary and waiting for my UCL application:smile:
Hope this helps , Good luck with with everything!

Thank you for your reply! It's good to hear you enjoyed your time at Regents since that's the one I chose. I assumed the name recognition would be zilch like you said but I'm planning on leveraging this MSc into a PHD at a more recognized school. If you ever think of it, I'd love to hear which one you choose and if you enjoy the program. I'm sure you'll have a great time at whichever one you choose. Good luck to you as well!

Hi, Im applying now to some of those universities for a conversion starting 2025. I believe my personal statement is strong but I don't think my references will be great as my lecturers and people providing my references don't know me too well. I also don't have any work experience directly related to psychology (not from lack of trying). I just wanted to ask about how much you think your references and work experience played into your offers? Thanks.

Hi! I had been out of school for ten years when I applied so I got references from bosses I had and they were accepted everywhere except university of Glasgow (I had to contact an old professor for that program). I think it might be better to have someone write you a reference who knows you better, but I'm not sure how heavily the references are weighted. I think it's normal to not have work experience directly related to psychology, I think the point of your personal statement is to show how skills you learned in your other experiences will transfer to psychology now. So make sure you relate your answers and your skills to skills you might imagine a psychologist or therapist will need. Good luck!
