Hi Anonymous,
Just to expand on my previous comment after speaking to my manager, we want to make it clear that once an individual is a student at the University of Reading, they are bound by our Harassment and Bullying Policy (
#NeverOK) which applies to all staff, students and contractors. However, as of right now the University is not present on Snapchat through any official channels which unfortunately means we cannot investigate the claims and are unable to moderate any comments made on the platform. While we strongly recommend that any incident that occurs while you are a student of the University
be reported, unfortunately, prior to joining the University, there is little action that we are able to undertake, and especially on platforms that we don’t have official channels on, and from your message I understand the individual in question is not an enrolled student, which restricts the action we as a university may be able to take. As other commentors on this thread have pointed out, reporting this kind of behaviour is very important and we would recommend that you do take this forward and we would therefore recommend that you report this incident through both the appropriate social media platform and to the police and remove yourself from any groups relating to the University that are not run or moderated by us. If you feel comfortable, it would be great if you could contact us privately through The Student Room with any other information about this incident so we can monitor the situation going forward and see what steps we may be able to take within the university- our students' safety is of utmost concern to us. We do not tolerate any form of bullying or harassment within our official University channels.
If you would like to connect with other offer holders, please use our private
Offer Holders Instagram Page where I'm sure you'll find many likeminded people to help bridge your transition to uni. We will have also launched a Facebook group which is invite only, where you can meet others who have applied to your course and start your own conversations. We also recommend that you check out our
tips on staying safe on social media.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you have at any point - we really hope this situation can be resolved quickly and easily and of course as a university we want to do whatever we can to ensure you have an enjoyable experience at Reading. As a student here, I can say that the university have numerous incredibly supportive departments and procedures in the rare case of a difficult incident such as this, and in your Fresher's week you'll find out more about them, and hopefully meet many kind and interesting people who will make your uni experience much more positive.
