Nursing placement

Hi,
I’m a third year student nurse looking for advice.
I’m currently at placement so upset as I’ve just been pulled by my supervisor to tell me multiple members of staff have pulled her to say I have no initiative and that I sit around a lot at the desk area. I’m embarrassed as I broke down in tears as I’m already feeling so much pressure. The thing is I feel as though I’m trying my absolute best in this placement, I don’t really have much ward experience as for one of my placements I was off sick and my others have been theatre / community. Am I wrong for feeling deeply upset and discouraged to even want to carry on anymore with this placement? I have at least another 16 weeks here and to be told I might not be signed off because of this makes me so anxious and upset.
Does anybody have any advice or has had a similar experience?

you have 16 weeks to prove them wrong.

Criticism is always difficult in some capacity, and as a third-year student nurse, I understand the pressure you're feeling right now 😞

Take this as a learning opportunity; sit down with your mentor/assessor and discuss how you've had minimal ward experience but are eager to improve. Ask them to highlight areas in which they believe you can expand. Ask to be involved in MDT meetings, be involved in handover, do wound assessment and wound care, ask to be there when counting controlled medication, be there for medication rounds, and get involved in documentation and risk assessments (if you're not already doing this).

Prove them wrong; let this fuel you to get as much out of this placement as possible. You can do it!
