what gcse topic would this be on?? from a past paper

Hi ! what gcse topic would this be part of
Btw I know this is ratio but I need the specific topic of ratio because U have never seen these type of questions of ratios before
Thank you :smile:

There are four bosses on a shelf, A, B, C and D
The total weight of A and B is 3 times the total weight of C and D

The weight of A is 2/3 of the weight of B
The weight of C is 75% of the weight of D

Find the ratio
Weight of A : weight of B : weight of C : weight of D
The answer is
A : B : C : D
24 : 36 : 15 : 5
It's simple algebra really:
Let C = x
b = b
a = 2/3b
d = 1/3x
C + d = 4x
4x = 5/3b
x = 5/12b
B : C
12:5
1/3x = d = 5/36
B : D
36:5
B : C : D
36:15:5
A = 2/3b
When b = 36, a = 24
A : B : C : D
24:36:15:5
Hope this helps explain, but it's algebra as you're just making expressions and setting them equal to each other.

hi! thanks for the step by step explanation🙂 so would you say that this question is ratio with alegrba?

Please edit - you have broken the forum rules by posting a solution and this is not what the OP asked.

I don't believe I have; I simply inferred from the original question that a step by step explanation would be beneficial, which has been further clarified by the response from @studyisnotbad. So, @studyisnotbad, yes, it is mostly just an algebra question, but you do need a simple knowledge of ratios to solve it.
