moving into second year uni house

okay so im a first year at uni who is going to move out for their second year housing and im going to move my stuff sraight into the house, i wanted to ask on here before emailing the estate agent i guess in case this is a stupid question to ask, but do you think the landlord would let me move in just a day before the contract starts? the time i need to be out for my current accom and the move in for the house overlap so it doesn't work, especially since i don't think all my stuff will fit into the car in one go... im not sure if this is making any sense but would it be worth emailing just to double check? i don't want to seem like im asking for a lot ! (or has anyone else been able to do this)

Hi Anon,

It really depends on the landlord, some will be a stickler to the contract (no necessarily for no reason, it might cause an issue for them in terms of insurance/cleaning etc.) and it'll be a hard no, some might be super picky and charge you for whatever the cost would be for an extra day, and some will be more than happy to try and help. Asking is definitely the best thing to do, just explain the situation and ask if it's possible - the worst they can say is no and it's not unreasonable to check.

Hi!

You may have asked by now but I just thought I'd say that it is worth asking if you haven't already! Don't be nervous to ask them as they get lots of people each year who probably ask the same thing or ask stranger questions than if you can move your stuff in one day early! So don't be afraid to ask, especially if it is really going to help you out with moving your things around. It is a pain when the dates don't overlap with moving out of your previous place.

They may not be able to accommodate your request as it might not be quite ready, they may not have insurance to do this or they may just not want to. However, it's still worth asking as they may be able to allow you to do this.

One of my friends did this for her second year house and was allowed to move some things in early so some people do allow you to do this! However, I know people who have tried to do this and were not allowed.

I hope this helps,
