Grades held by accepted students, this is what Swansea uni let in last year
BBC Most common
AAA
Highest grades
CDD
Lowest grades

'Higher grades' doesn't mean 'better' - either the course or the Uni.
And it certainly doesnt mean that you will be any happer than at your current Firm choice.

Also remember that Clearing applicants are usually at the back of the queue for accommodation - getting a Clearing place is therefore only half the problem, you may then have nowhere to live, and this was a significant problem at some Unis last year.

A less stressful tactic if you do get better grades than expected, is to decline any offer/place for this year, plan a gap year and reapply to 5 new choices for 2025 entry. This will always give you a much wider choice than just 'what's in Clearing', and means you can look around properly and not make a panicky decision you might later regret.

hello, the "better" in the title might be a bit misleading , as i meant its better for me to go there as there is already somewhere to live etc,(long story short, basically my parents was selling their busniess but the guy gave up cos landlord asked 6 months of deposit at the last second, so they had to keep running it), and as this was completely not expected hence why its not in my 5 choices at the start.
on results day, i think i can get like a written offer from them first and then decline my firm correct? and if theres no space i can just go to my firm like nothing happened?(if i have the grades ofc)
its not i dont like my firm ,i been there, but its just cheaper as i dont have to pay rent etc for 4/5 years if i went DMU.
(doing mpharm)

edit:i know leicester uni just opened mpharm this year too, but i heared it only has 20 ish space? so i assume there wont be any vacancies (ill try too but without hope).

Hi

Yes, this is possible, once you have received your results on results day you can call the clearing hotline of the university that you want to transfer to and see if they can provide you with an offer.

Their ability to give you an offer may depend on whether there is space on the course etc, but it is always worth that phone call to check.

Good luck!

Hope this helps,

This isnt how clearing works. Universities can only make offers to students in clearing and you have to have a clearing number for that. You only get a clearing number when you have no offers. They wont give you a written offer the you decline your existing offer. That isnt going to happen. You will need to give up your place first. The university could get into serious problems acting as you have suggested.

Yes, but you won’t be able to accept a Clearing offer unless you self-release from your original unconditional offer. Do you have to reject offers to go through Clearing? Yes, you must reject any unconditional offers you hold before you can go through Clearing.

Yes you have a place. No university can make you an offer if you have a confirmed PLACE. This is classed as poaching under ucas rules. They might say they have spaces but that is known anyway for them to be in clearing. Some might discuss with you. Others wont unless you are able to give a clearing number and you cant get that until you self reject. There used to be a process called adjustment where you could do as you want and hold your offer but that has been discontinued.

Clearing is meant for people without places to get available spaces not for what you are trying to do.

There is another issue. There were very few spaces for Pharmacy last year. It became very popular and only a few universities were in clearing for Pharmacy so the university that you are looking for may not be available,

One thing I would say is also try calling clearing as soon as it opens-even before exam date as they open their offices soon I think- and just ask for more information. It can help and you can even find out about the demand of a course etc.
