Hi Amy

It's lovely to know that you're considering applying to Durham. To answer your questions:

There are 16 undergraduate colleges at Durham currently. Once you receive a conditional offer to study at Durham, you will be able to rank these colleges from top to bottom in the order of your preference. You can submit your application to study at Durham anytime between 3rd September 2024 and 29th January 2025. If and when you receive an offer, you will fill out the college ranking form and preliminary allocations will be made around April-May 2025. You can read more on colleges here: Undergraduate collegiate system

There are various factors you can consider when ranking colleges, including catering options, room types, distance from your department, additional costs etc. You can read more on how to choose a college here: How do I pick a college?

I'm a law student so unfortunately cannot tell you about the international relations course but you can reach out to a student on Unibuddy who studies this course and they'd be happy to answer your questions. You can also read some student blogs:
What's it like studying International Relations
What's it like studying International Relations Pt.2

You can look up more course-focussed and general Durham content here: https://studentblog.webspace.durham.ac.uk/

Let me know if you have more questions
