GCSE results

cl I feel like my life is over
I'm almost sure that I will only get 7 9s out of 11 subjects and the other 4 will be 8877 and I don't know how this will impact university applications. It's really annoying as well because the average grade at my school is a 7.5 so 2 of my grades would be below average. My average would be 8.5 as I did a language GCSE last year and got a 9.
I also don't know if it's worth resitting the 2 7s.

I don't think many people have said "only seven 9s" before. From the sounds of it, you come from a very aspirational/privileged school and I think you have to realise that most people do 9 GCSEs and not 12. Getting that many 9s is already really, really good and I know plenty of people who would be more than happy with just one.

I'd also like to stress that you might end up doing even better than you already predicted. People tend to fixate on their mistakes and give themselves an unrealistically low score. Once I thought I failed a history exam and it turned out, I'd only dropped a couple of marks!

The only places where getting sevens is a disadvantage are if you want to do further maths and got a 7 in maths. Other than that, some high-brow universities like Oxford do consider your GCSEs but your results are still insane. You should also remember that there are are lot of students who don't even hit sevens and go on to do really well at A levels.

i think your overthinking a tiny bit. no universities on the planet would reject you with those GCSES grades. Unis are mainly concerned with Alevles so I suggest you look at your strongest subjects and choose those for alevels. 7s are strong grades and if you got a 7 in let’s say maths you would still be eligible in most sixth forms and colleges to sit maths. I wouldn’t worry about it at all, your most important exams are alevels. celebrate thats you’ve completed your GCSEs and you might come out with some incredible results.

Do you come from a deprived school (because i do 8 and a btec estimated like 5 nines and 3 eights and even if you get bad grades some unis pull them up one bcs of being in a deprived area?)

please don't resit. if you really want to get the 7s remarked but its not worth resitting.
I go to a super selective sixth form and honestly your grades sound really, really good to me. unis will think the same and won't care about your 7s as long as you get good A-level predicteds, which are ultimately more important

however as mentioned it's only concerning if those sevens are in the subject you want to do at uni. i'm presuming they aren't though

but honestly don't think too much about it until you've seen your actual results, you might get suprised. i was consistently predicted a 9 in german but ended up with an 8. i was predicted 7s in english but ended up with 9s. especially because you go to a grammar school, i have a feeling your sense of whether you've done well or not is very flawed. things are very different when you're up against the whole country - up until now you've been up against some of the smartest people in the country.
good luck!!

Definitely resit. There is no way 7 9s is enough. Realistically no universities will accept you. Plus where are your 10s !? Only 9s no 10s? You will end up homeless sorry.

Yeah I'm mostly just concerned about oxford admissions because the contextualise your grades but realistically I can probably make up for it with predicted grades for alevel and my admission test and interview I guess

No thankfully my alevel subjects have all been going well. Honestly I think my thoughts might be skewed about a couple of my results but I definitely messed up english lit because I spent like 45 minutes looking around. I'm a bit worried for future exams as well tbh because I can't seem to hold my focus for essay writing exams for an hour without getting distracted.

don't worry too much!! im presuming you're 15/16 right now? you've still got a long time left to learn and develop essay writing skills, its ok if your focus isn't the best right now. 8s and 7s are still really good, and they are also a sign that you have put a lot of work into a subject and that you are doing well in it. a lot of unis consider 8 and 9 to be the same thing because of how difficult it is to get those grades. and you can think of 7s like an A grade because they're still really good.
