Getting ready for the exams.

Hello,
I am a student starting the Final year (A2) of my Edexcel IAL exams. My subjects are Biology, Chemistry and Physics. My AS exam ended 2 weeks ago. during the course I roughly did 200 Practice and Past papers and studied everyday with a very still and focused mind. I believe the best have been done from my side and the tutors' aswell. The burning question I have is why I messed up my AS exams even after doing so much hardwork. What I feel is that one has to be 'INTELLIGENT' AND hardworking BOTH together and not just hardworking , to get a very good results for this advanced levels exams. Because I aced all my pre-exam papers but still found the actual AS exam extremely hard as the way the questions have been asked were changed.
How can this problem be addressed ? What must I do to improve myself ?

you see if the exam was hard that means their grade levels will be lower. you should actually be concerned if it was too easy cuz the grade marking will be higher. dw. just don't stress out too much and get ready for your A2.

goodluck girl 💗

Hi @AMAYA WIJESINGHE,

It's very often that students find mocks and pre-exams much easier than the actual exam itself. As quoted above the grade boundaries are likely to be reduced on more difficult exams. To prep yourself for A2, I highly recommend you devise a revision timetable to ensure you're dedicating equal amounts of revision across all your subjects. A-Levels require a lot of self-independent study, therefore a timetable would be extremely useful. Another tip I have is to create summary notes for each chapter of the subjects you're taking, I like to use the cornell method to do these summaries. I found them especially useful for biology when I was nearing my A2 exams and needed a refresh on the topics at the start of A2.

Hope this helps,
Danish

nw. well as for myself i'm doing A2 in 6 months. so what i'm doing right now is going through every subject on a schedule. like tomorrow i'll finish revising the math P3 and then some past papers like that. also make short notes. it really helps you. and i think you're from SL cuz i'm from SL too. so going to a small peer paper class will maybe help you somewhat 😊.

I had similar difficulties what really helped me is to see the mark schemes to understand how they would like the answer to be articulated. Additionally it helps to analyze how the question is asked and understading what exactly they are asking with all those signal words.
