Student Finance after changing course to include year in industry

Hey, i just finished my first year and applied for the second year student finance, but i was thinking about changing from my current software engineering course, to software engineering with a year in industry.

With my University, i just have to fill out a form, and then they said they'll tell Student Finance if I am approved for the transfer if i do this after the course started. But my question is, if i do it after the year started, do i have to pay back anything, if, for example i apply and tell student finance before the first payment is due to go out ? (I am only getting the tuition loan as i commute to university).

Hi there,

When does the placement year start? Will it be an unpaid or paid placement and do you spend any time at the university?

Thanks, Drew

It would be the year after second year so summer 2025 I think, and the university says for it should last 9 months, but i dont know exactly when as we havent been given that much information about it yet. I dont think we spend time in the university during the placement year. The university says it is our responsibility to find a placement so I assume you can get either a paid or unpaid placement, depending on where you apply.
Hi there,

You should be able to update your application to the 4 year course instead of the 3 year course. Have you submitted your application yet? If the university were to accept your transfer you would not need to pay anything back as you would still be in your 2nd year.

Thanks, Drew

I haven't submitted yet (the transfer application, i submitted for student finance before the deadline) as I haven't been at home this week, i plan to do so as soon as i get back though (according to the university I should get a response on whether the transfer has been accepted or not after 7 working days).

Thanks for your help!🙂
Hi Al3x235,

That's fine, just reapply online as normal and if anything needs to be updated or changed in relation to your course, your university can send a Change of Circumstances through to update this for you.

Thanks, Clare

Oh okay thankyou!

If the change goes through to sfe after the deadline (like if the university send it late or whatever), the tuition loan should **** be sorted in time for my course right?

Thats my last question i think😅, thanks for answering my questions
