Am I being really selfish

So I play in an orchestra, I recently got a fairly new instrument and I’m really grateful for it, it’s made me feel so confident and grounded when I play at orchestra.
But then last rehearsal this guy showed me he got the same instrument as mine but the most brand new model. He was boasting about how it was better then mine and so the whole rehearsal I couldn’t focus because I kept feeling so inferior to him. I am very grateful for my instrument because it’s a great quality and was still quite pricey but his is even better and it just annoys me how he felt the need to boast about how his was better, and band new compared to mine.
The whole incident has made me dislike my new instrument which is absolutely ridiculous because it’s a big improvement to my old one. I guess I’m just, really jealous and annoyed that my newfound confidence has now been stripped away.

What that guy did is wrong, completely and utterly. I'd understand if he got the newest instrument but boasting about it and belittling you is not the right thing to do. I understand your jealousy, but it's always the player that makes the instrument, I'd say, and your instrument, like you said, is still good quality. What you need to do is focus on yourself and learn to play your instrument well, that way, if his instrument is the newest or best version, it doesn't matter if he can't play it well. I get your jealousy but I'd ignore him and learn to play really well
