Work experience

Im currently an A-Level student in year 12, studying Maths, Chemistry and Physics. Im interested in studying Maths with computer science at uni with hopes to become a quant/data analyst. Where could i look for work experience for the coming summer?

Hey there! It depends on the type of work experience you are looking for. There is the type where it is like an educational course/taster on data analyst/computer science, or the type where you actually work for them and get paid.

If you don't have much experience in programming, I strongly recommend you to take online courses and build your foundation, having a bit of a portfolio, before you get a work experience. Taking Py4E on Coursera or CS50x on EdX for example.

If you are looking for work experience where you work for a company, LinkedIn is the perfect place to go. Build your profile and network there, then try messaging startups or smaller companies for work experiences/internships.

If you want the educational type, just take the online courses and experiment with your own projects to build a portfolio first. Then directly go for a work experience for a company instead.

You don't need specific work-experience for Maths or CS.
Degrees like these want evidence of your academic interests within that degree subject.

So - for w/ex just pick something you will enjoy dong, and something that develops your communication skills, because you will need this whatever Uni subject you pick.

Thank you very much! I have a LinkedIn profile already so I’ll definitely try reaching out. I’ve started learning python too earlier this year but was thinking of ways to show my progression so i think I’ll also try some of those courses. Thanks for the reply again.

Good point, I hadn’t thought about choosing something less specific to be honest so I’ll try keeping that in mind. Thanks for the reply.
