Second undergrad degree?

I am considering doing a second undergraduate degree, as I was extremely unwell during the time I did my undergrad and ended up having to take an ordinary degree instead of an honours, which I'm worried will hurt my job prospects.
I don't really know how to go about doing this as although I know it would just be the UCAS process, I applied for my degree in 2017 for 2018 entry so I know the process has since changed, and I also don't know what I would need in terms of references.
My only other question is, does it really matter only having an ordinary degree instead of honours? Am I being quite insecure here?

How are you going to fund a second degree?

Hi,

It really depends, on what sort of career that you want to go in to, that may have have some requirements on what grade you should have or whether it should be with honours or not.

Having a degree is such a amazing achievement, so you should feel really proud of yourself, especially since you weren't very well while you were at uni. If you want to do a second undergraduate because you want to do it and you feel like it will help you in your future career then go for it! I know people while I've been at YSJ that have previously done a undergraduate degree at another university, and then they decided they wanted to do something else and completed a second.

The main challenge in completing a second undergraduate degree is funding from Student Finance. Most the time they will only fund 3 or 4 years for undergraduate degrees . However, you may be able to get funding since you have a degree without honours. This is a link to the SFE eligibility criteria for undergraduate finance

In regards to applying, I applied through UCAS in 2019 and I'm pretty sure its a very similar process, but they have just slightly changed the website. You will need to register on UCAS hub and complete the registration questions. This is a link to the UCAS step by step guide

For references, I would recommend that you ask people who know you well such as a Teacher from previous school or college, lectures from when you were at university in 2018,or employers.

I hope this helps! Good luck

It depends what the 2nd degree would be in - is it worth looking at a Masters conversion (if they exist for your subject)? I'm sure there are options out there that will consider a degree without Honours especially if you can prove the extenuating circumstances. But it might help if you provide a bit more context about what you're looking to do and what your first degree is in etc.

I know is quite late, but if u feel u can do it go for it, funding will be a problem, only STEM part time courses and NHS careers full time are funded as a secondary degree. U should be proud of what u achieved, and u only got one life go for it, I will recommend if u can top up tho, open university is an option

Because OP doesn’t have an honours degree then exemption from ELQ rules isn’t an issue. The barrier to funding would be previous study rules, they would be eligible for a maintenance loan for all years of a new course but probably only for a tuition fee loan in their final year.
