I have no idea about subjects for my A-Levels

My two options are Dentistry or Law.
For Dentistry, I obviously need bio + chem, but there are other subjects that I would also like to do that would probably be an easier A/A* for me. If I went for Law, I would consider biology as a third A-Level, but apparently chemistry is so different at A-Level to GCSE that I wouldn't really want to do all that if I didn't /have/ to. I genuinely just have no idea because I have two different A-Level options depending on what I would do after college.
If I was doing Dentistry, my options would likely be - Biology, Chemistry, Maths/English Lit
If I was doing Law, my options would likely be - Law, Maths, English Lit/Biology
I really don't know.

to be fair, it depends on what university you want to go to, but have you checked the subject requirements for law? because i know in a lot of places you don't need any specific subjects to study law. but it all depends on the university. so maybe you could still do bio, chem, and then maths/english lit and then be able to do either dentistry or law depending on what you choose later.

check entry requirements for both dentistry and law, but i think a good way to keep your options open would be chemistry, maths and english lit/chemistry, english lit and another essay based subject
but you can never be sure until you actually check entry requirements

if you really want to be a dentist, you can't avoid chemistry
it's a hella competitive course and you don't want to disadvantage yourself by not having chemistry when most other applicants will have it
like you can sacrifice bio but not chem

also keep in mind that you could always do a different undergrad degree and then do a conversion course for law, so if i were you i would look into that

but i think at this point in time, what you really need to decide is whether you want to do a stem degree or a humanities degree. because once you've decided that you can pick subjects that will let you keep your options open within that realm until you actually have to submit your ucas application. if you're considering a stem degree, you probably need chemistry, maths and possibly (but not necessarily) further maths to be competitive and within entry requirements.
good luck with this!!

If you opt for dentistry, do maths over English lit, if you opt for law, opt for English lit over biology. If you’re struggling to decide what you want to do after A-level, just imagine which one you would ENJOY more (as jobs surrounding dentistry and law are both well paying), and base your A-level decisions off of that. That advice is probably useless but it’s all I got

Hi,

A lot of university's don't require certain A levels subjects to study law, only that you meet the grade requirements. For example this YSJ requirements for Law Law LLB (Hons) | York St John University (yorksj.ac.uk).

This is a Law guide on UCAS, that explains it in more detail. Such as common grade requirements and handy subjects to study. Law | UCAS. This is also the one for Dentistry Dentistry | UCAS

If you haven't decided between Dentistry and Law, I would recommend that you choose the subjects that are required to study dentistry, since those subject requirements are much stricter.

Hope this helps,

Law has no subject requirements - you can apply to law with the same A-levels as you'd take for dentistry. As I understand any third A-level subject is fine for dentistry. You would give yourself plenty of options by just doing bio/chem/any third subject.

Dentistry is something that requires a fair bit of commitment though, between the application process and the long degree. Maybe try and see if you can do a bit of work experience or shadowing in a dentist's near you? Even just spending time with reception getting to know the kinds of patients that come through and the things that get flagged up and how a dental surgery functions as a business might be illuminating (since unlike most areas of medicine, in dentistry the business side is more of a factor as I understand). This might also give you the opportunity to speak with the dentist(s) a bit about their (clinical) work.

It really depends on what you want to be in the future. If you really want to do dentistry you will just have to revise for chem and take it as a challenge. Don’t take a levels based on what you find the easiest. Take them based on what you can see yourself doing in the future.
