clearing help!!

I don’t like any of the unis i’ve applied to does anyone know any russel group unis which go into clearing and what courses are usually on there, i like the look of bristol exeter and cardiff and id like to do something like social policy or social sciences politics etc. I really really don’t want to take a year out, if it comes to it should i just go to a uni which is below my grades if that makes sense? Like UWE or oxford brookes. This is really annoying as i’ve revised so so much but i mentally couldn’t handle a year out neither going to any of the unis i’ve applied to! Not sure what to do

Not to big up UWE in the slightest (make your choice on what is right for you always) but I would seriously look into applying if you do want to go through clearing with UWE.
I didn’t get into my choices last year and went through clearing with them last year and they were an absolute dream - I was accepted on the day of calling and they put me on a higher course than my grades should’ve gotten me onto. The only issue I would say with UWE is that through clearing accommodation is a gamble and is very limited sometimes. But all in all, I would really not overlook it - it’s a fantastic Uni.

Hi @fhjskssskbwhhw

It varies year on year. I worked on the clearing hotline last year and the University of Southampton did have social science courses such as politics, PPE etc. in Clearing.
There are other russell groups who also did.
However, I cannot give you a definitive answer as it is variable and changes year on year. My recommendation would be to make a list of the universities you are interested in (and their clearing phone numbers), including their entry requirements in advance of results day. So that as soon as you get your results, you can begin phoning universities' clearing hotlines, as it is a first come first serve process.

Hi @fhjskssskbwhhw,

We hope you were able to secure a spot at an institution through Clearing! If not, don’t worry—a gap year can be an amazing opportunity to take a breather, grow personally, and explore new experiences. No matter what happens, remember you’ve worked hard and given it your all, that’s something to be really proud of 🙂

For those wondering, Clearing at Oxford Brookes is now closed for this year. However, starting from 5 July 2025, you can apply for a course through Clearing if you’re not holding an offer from a university or college, and the course still has available spots.

You can use Clearing if:

You’re applying after 30 June.

You didn’t receive any offers (or none you wanted to accept).

You didn’t meet the conditions of your offers.

You’ve declined your firm place using the ‘decline my place’ button in your application.

Before adding a Clearing choice to your application, make sure to contact the university or college directly. Ask if they’d consider accepting you, and gather informal offers from different institutions. Take your time to decide which one feels right for you!

We’d love to hear from you! What are your plans for the year - are you thinking of taking a gap year 🌍️ or have you started your studies 📝?

Best wishes,

Clare
