Every university has different rules and regulations. What university are you at?

Also, you've posted this in the Postgraduate Support forum. Is this a Master's degree then?

The rules you seek are in Academic Regulations for Taught Awards (ARTA) 2023/24, specifically section 3.6. The following would appear to rule-out compensation, I'm afraid:

"The module mark must be within at least 10% of the pass mark (i.e. 30% and above for modules at level 6 and below and 40% and above for level 7 modules); a failed pass/fail module cannot be compensated."

As a Master's degree is level 7, the pass mark is 50% - meaning that compensation only applies at 40% or above.

I would therefore expect 3.7.2 and 3.7.5 to apply:

"3.7.2 On a full-time postgraduate programme at the end of an intermediate or award stage, a student will be referred in all failed modules. There is no level average requirement for referral."

"3.7.5 The referral opportunity will normally take place after the end of level or stage Programme Assessment Board (PAB)."

In other words, you'll be given another opportunity to be assessed in this module. Assuming you're at the Newcastle campus, then re-assessment takes place from Monday 19 August to Friday 23 August 2024 (see the 2023-2024 Calendar).

How can I contact you poster? I’m from Northumbria Uni and I have the same issues. It’s a masters and I passed all courses except one, waiting for exam board decision. Totally confused.
