Civil service summer internship 2025

Hi! I've just finished my first year (politics and sociology at sheffield) and I am very interested in a career in the civil service and the summer internship is of course a brilliant way to get started. When would I begin the application process for next year's programme? What does the application process involve? What is the acceptance rate?

Thank you very much!

Hey! You can find more information about the main internship programme here: https://www.faststream.gov.uk/summer-internship-programme/index.html. I've done the SDIP (as it was known then) back in 2017 and starting the Fast Stream this September, so let me know if you have any questions!

Looking to do a Summer Internship with the CS too

No updates - but they have a one week Work Ecperience programme within MOJ you can probably do in the meantime (I'm hoping to secure this) and then next summer, do the CS Internship.

What Civil Service division are you looking to go into?

Hi everyone, just wondering if it’s weird to apply for the civil summer internship as postgrad student?

Hi! Unless it's a specialist scheme where you need a specific degree (e.g., GSS), the application only focuses on your strengths. I was only asked about my work and education history once I passed the AC as part of pre-employment checks. As for advice, read and study the Civil Service behaviours and strengths profiles, as that is what you'll be assessed against. There is also information on the website about what each exercise involves. 😊

The applications are now open for the Summer Internship Programme and the Fast Stream:

I got feedback for the tests, but not a rejection or pass yet. Have you? I wonder how competitive it is compared to the actual thing ..

I got feedback too but no pass or fail yet. Some people have gotten their rejection emails from the fast stream already so I assumed they would give us ours at the same time but I guess I was wrong. The SIP seems far less competitive than the actual fast stream

I submitted my tests yesterday and wonder if I have to do anything else (I submitted the tests but haven't heard anything yet) and the deadline is today at midday.

I got average on the using data, and higher on the other two. Still not heard back. Seems most people who have applied to the fast stream have received results but not us.

I got average for the case study and higher than average/good capability on the data and wbs. additional qs still haven't unlocked yet though.

I got average for Data, above average for Work Based Scenarios and average for Case Study Assessment. Nothing’s been unlocked for me either

apparently if you click to withdraw from the schemes you can see how many schemes you are still being considered for

Got an email I passed the tests, but can’t fill in the additional questions yet. Anyone else?
